My district shared guidelines for how to beef up security of Zoom meetings like using the waiting room, shutting off the screen share option, and providing direct instruction about acceptable use and bring kind to each other while using Zoom, Google Hangouts, or even while commenting on Google Classroom. We are supposed to call parents and complete discipline referrals for violations of the policies that we lay out for our students.

Yeah from my limited understanding, it’s being very encouraged. Of course, they’ve sent us so many deadlines all at once (all our remaining IEP’s are due virtually this WEEK) and after two weeks of utter silence, now they’re flooding our inbox with new information regarding virtual education and standards, etc. which there’s no way to keep up with it all. I’m definitely feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, and unsure of what’s expected of me overall.

I’ve cried over this same frustration. It’s so much at once but it will work out. Reaching out to tech savvy people helps a lot.

I mean...that kind of makes sense. I'm weary of parents being there with the whole class, etc. We're the opposite...going full force live video teaching. A lot of us are feeling overwhelmed though. I'm not sure "boat" is better right now! 🤣

No but I also don’t really wanna use them anyway so I wouldn’t care. There’s other ways to communicate. I’m only using those as a last resort 1:1 tutoring solution

My district is fine with us using zoom, etc. but our union is advising us to wait due to stories of hackers who have bombed zoom conversations with pornographic images, etc. I don’t think it’s actually happened in my district, but they’re trying to protect teachers and students alike. I’m concerned about this but would still like to use it. Tips for safety: 1) Check your settings as the host and disable others from controlling their video or audio if you’re concerned about students saying/showing inappropriate things. 2) Tell students to turn off their video if having a discussion. Also advise them to be mindful of their surroundings—to not show personal things they don’t want on camera. 3) Use a password for joining. It’s an added step for security. 4) Don’t record anything with students. This could be a violation of privacy laws. Not even audio. Only record yourself in lessons. At this point, I’ve only posted videos of myself using YouTube, but “unlisted” so only students with the link can see. The photo below is something I saw, too. This doesn’t make it impossible for something bad to happen, but it can lessen the chances. I’ll be trying it next week. I’m still learning about a lot of things. I’m also using Flipgrid (it’s cool) and am checking into Google Meet. Trying to decide what’s best. Fortunately Google Classroom comments, Remind, and email are good standbys. Good luck everyone! :)

I’m staying away from anything video. It takes only seconds for someone to screen record you. There’s new TikTok challenges about it and the couple I’ve seen are obscene.

My district’s board attorney said no to Zoom. Google hangouts only if a colleague is also in the chat and after setting expectations. No recording by students, students must be in a common area of the home, etc. We are videotaping instruction and posting it, but strongly discouraged from live contact and not permitted to do live instruction at all!

Our district is doing it this way today and will do it another way tomorrow and another way the next day. It’s almost like we are walking around with the walking dead in a Stephen King Novel 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Also, if you have a district email, Zoom has waived the 40 minute basic fee for teachers. Doesn’t matter where you are; if you have a district email, You have free unlimited Zoom!

No, we are actually going to and will be required to set up google classrooms and there are specific tools to do this safely and tools allowed by the district

My district is giving guidelines but are encouraging teachers to reach out and connect through Zoom or Google Meet. I use to think the district I work for had all this restrictions for teachers, but the administration has really made a switch. They support and engage teachers to due what is best for our students. Yes standards are important but so is engagement, SEL, real life learning, etc.

Why do they have to download it? I have it downloaded so I can use the meeting function, but my own kids use it and they just “join a meeting” through the website and no download required.

Was talking to the husband about what to do when kid 2 comes, if I'd want to go part time/flexible and keep them both at home while we wait for the pandemic to calm down (kid 1 is currently in daycare). Decision - I was out the door of my nationwide ins dfense firm. Was going to top local firm with a lot more clout where everything would be private pay and I’d be more on bigger exposure cases. However, my firm outmatched the new firm, made a much better bonus structure, and said I could do more work with their complex bus lit group. I’d still likely do about 50 percent ins defense but I really like the partners I work for, and I handle own cases/take depos, and get autonomy. Am I right to stay?

Hello fishes. I gave 2 rounds of Interviews with Deloitte USI for Senior Analyst role. Both the rounds went well, one with Exec. Director, the other with VP. After the 2nd round, the HR has become unresponsive, not receiving calls. I am not sure if I am a select or not even after 10 days. Not received any regret mail also. After getting promoted in Feb 2020 (lol fml) I designed and implemented a significant piece of data infrastructure that is beyond what’s expected of someone at my level. In 2021, I was not recognized for this accomplishment and a guy who knows nothing about the technology was promoted over me.
