I had a director like that. Even when he would ask me to speak, he would keep talking and never shut up. It was very awkward, because others could see it too.
People like this seem to love the sound of their own voice. I ended up leaving, because I got tired of this idiot.
Yeah that seems to be the case. Just gonna learn to let it go 🤷🏻♂️
Darn. Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, not all bosses are created equal. And in this instance it’s your boss’s boss’s boss. Keep your chin up and don’t let it get you down. And know that when you’re an ECD and running the creative department, that you’ll do it a whole lot better 👍
Thanks! It’s definitely something to learn from and remember as I move on throughout my career
STOP EXPLAINING. You should be prepared with SHORT, leading questions that point his verbal diarrhea towards the answer you want him to get to on his own.
You got to your solution by some kind of thought process. Before showing the work, you should be setting it up by walking your audience through that so when you reveal your solution it's the obvious answer. If despite that your CD tends to find flaws you need to take some time to anticipate what those will be and lead him to the answer by phrasing your response as a question which allows him to talk. Give me an example of the situation you've dealt with and I'll try to show how that would work. I can't provide an example because I don't know what kinds of things he says when interrupting and your leading question would have to anticipate that. Is he talking over you just to maintain "leadership" status or is he playing devil's advocate or is he ADD and leapfrogging concepts, or does he need to think out loud?
