My employer announced they are hosting a company retreat in another state in September and flying us all in from around the country and internationally. I am vaccinated but I don’t feel comfortable and my role is remote. Why is this even necessary is my point of view. Anyone else have mandatory retreats this year?

What would make you comfortable to attend? I think it’s reasonable to ask your employer about safeguards in place. I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect that we’re never working IRL again.

ACC1, the reason kids don’t get the vaccine is because the FDA hasn’t approved it yet for them. Clinical trials are going on and approval for young kids is expected in the fall.

Oh my, another state?! Oh, the horror!!! Say no to agoraphobia 🙅🏾‍♀️

I don’t think you’re being unreasonable OP. I feel safe being around vaccinated people, but would want unvaccinated people to wear a mask. Is the company requiring attendees to be vaccinated?

funnylike

No, the company isn’t requiring people to be vaccinated and we are assuming the international folks are vaccinated bc they are verbally saying they are.

This is going to be a challenge and the scale of people leaving will be high in those companies who don’t offer flexibility. It’s a very sensitive topic with no rights or wrongs in my opinion. It’s more about the comfort level of the individual even if vaccinated and risk level for those not vaccinated.

likefunny

It's funny how it's significantly less sensitive topic for those who followed all the rules and got vaccinated as soon as they were able to. For example, I have zero sensitivity related to this issue. Ask me if I am vaccinated, and I'll say Yes. Ask me for proof of vaccination - and I'll show you my card. I don't see what the big deal is. People just love to create problems for themselves.

At what point are you going on be ready to return to a normal life? You’re vaccinated, as is half the US population (and more if you include people who’ve only had the first shot or even people who had the second shot or J&J less than two weeks ago). More will be vaccinated by September and the others are somewhat hopeless. You’re super unlikely to get a serious case of Covid if you’re vaccinated.

I just came back from a senior leadership retreat with 12 other leaders from my company in another state. It felt so good to meet some of the new team members in person and honestly just have some normalcy back.

OP is it really mandatory though? You never said that in your description, only your question. I haven’t heard of any company doing mandatory retreats at this point, but I’m looking forward to doing voluntary ones as soon as we can get them put together.

I agree thank you!

Seeking advice: anyone have experience dealing with a meddling sister-in-law (brother’s wife)? It just doesn’t feel right for her to do these things to my mother/interject in family affairs like this. Understandably brother doesn’t want to get in the middle of it. How to handle this?
