My father respects me more now that I am in the military, I understand him because he was a marine himself, but I can't help thinking how unfair that is. Glad I enjoy being in the troops!

If you wear it in a cruel way, do we always feel different from civilians or not? So it is common for that to happen with your father, despite this, he will not stop being cruel as you say.

The same thing happened to me, but my dad wasn't an officer or anything like that, but I did have a lot of behavior problems that I learned to improve in the ranks of the army, now not only my dad but my whole family respects me more.

It is common, although it seems strange, for your father understands that a better person came after studying to be a military man, respect is a reward for your effort, do not see it as anything else. Enjoy it and be better every day.

Tell me if the way to belong to the troops did not change you. Well, your father saw that change, he not only sees his son, he sees a person who made an effort and achieved tremendously.

Has anyone here ever taken a sabbatical/career break to travel? I’m 26 years old, making good (not great) money and have paid off all debt. I have a 4-year degree and have been working full-time since graduating 5 years ago. My dream is to explore SE Asia (Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, etc.) for a few months. I have no children or pets. Any advice or suggestions?

I have really been working on myself to start dating and I met someone who seemed pretty cool, but within two dates dropped some massive baggage. I flunked out of school and had no options when I joined the army. I hated every second of my time in, and spent all my weekends getting as drunk as possible.

Now that I’m out, I graduated with my BA in Econ, got a job I love, and somehow got into an M7 Bschool with a 670 GMAT. I look back on my time in and laugh, and still talk with some of my old army buddies (though not as often anymore)

Amazing how time can change your perspective, because 10 years ago I never thought I’d be here.
