Answer them, from my mom’s womb 😂
I’m sorry, GT1, but I wouldn’t purposely date white guys to blend in. That’s very silly thought. And quite immature
Asian Americans tend to not hang out with fobs because they might not click as well with their “own kind” not because they don’t want to be branded certain way.
I’m sorry, but it’s very shameful to hear such comment as asian.
I answer the first one with my home office and the second one with my client site.
Why do people get upset about that question?
I get that too
Get that a lot. And often time I just pretend/assume they ask where is my home office located
So used to getting that follow up question that I just automatically answer “I’m ‘really’ from Boston but if you’re asking about my ethnicity, I’m Chinese.” Used to get upset about it when I was younger now I don’t sweat it
Dd1 is from Boston? Me too!
It’s not upset, more like annoyed I think
It's because we are all immigranra no matter what race and Asian Americans are treating perpetually as new immigrants even though we can be 3rd or 4th generation
The correct response to the follow up question is “Sorry, I don’t speak any English” (said in English) then walk away
My gf, who is American born, gets this a lot. Even Asian Americans ask their fellows this question. As a result, I have noticed, 1) lots of Asian Americans tend to deliberately not hang out with the new Asian immigrants for fear of being branded as FOB and 2) Lots of Asian American females favor dating white guys to blend in / gain cultural acceptance
@K1: I understand where you are coming from. Perhaps, it’s just a bit easier to spot the pattern when you are on the receiving end. The reality is it’s been much easier for me to make connections and friends with non-Asian Americans
