Additional Posts in In-House Counsel
Any in-house counsel in here willing to post their company, level or YOE, and total comp breakdown? If you’re comfortable, please consider posting both your current stats and what your stats were when you first moved in-house. If there’s any other information that you want to share, please include that too (e.g., hours, interesting perks, etc.). Info on in-house salaries is pretty hard to come by, and it would be great to compile some data points here! Facebook Amazon Google Netflix Apple
I have a dear friend who was recent laid off from a tech company. I’m currently in my first in-house counsel position and was able to secure the job off of cold applying and don’t really have much advice to give. I really want to help support. I know about goinhouse.com and I know people say recruiters (I never found them helpful so wondering how). How did you find your gig? Sites? Been laid off and how to bounce back? Thanks!

Almost daily I’ll get an email about another group’s own policy/procedure (not even remotely a legal issue) oftentimes from the person who wrote that policy/procedure. I like to think of the situation as job security to lessen the frustration, but that only helps so much.
HR: “Employee X wants to know if he has to comply with the company policy. What should I tell him?”
The only thing I miss about law firm life is working with basically only extremely intelligent people. I didn’t realize the rest of the business world would have such a large mix, with so many falling on the lower half of the scale…
Haven’t had similar experiences at companies I’ve been at, everyone was smart, intelligent, driven, and equipped with what one may call a good “business acumen”. Guess I just got lucky …

Why did you limit to just emails on Friday? I got an email on Tuesday asking what our address was. The guy works in the same office………..
I created and distributed effing pictures with arrows and extensive information regarding our org structure, and I daily get asked “what should I put for ‘owner’”. 🙄 just follow that little up arrow bud…
My favorite email today is “I need this by EOD.” On. Every. Email.
I just sent this…. It sucked but I was notified of it last minute.
Wow I felt all these comments in my soul.
My “favorite” Friday email is “we’ve had this problem since Monday and thought it’d be best to loop you in now because we couldn’t think of a solution all week.” Obviously there is a disconnect of what it means to think.
My company does this shit repeatedly, but for extensive periods. Will know about a problem (usually a regulatory issue) for over 6 months and keep me in the dark until there’s 2 weeks or so to address it. Then be upset when it takes 2 months to get the issue resolved. I’m currently dealing with 2 major issues that have halted operations (and slowed revenue) at our subsidiaries and I’m just like🤷🏽♂️😒
I feel seen so deeply by you wonderful people
Why are you limiting this to just morning emails? I get emails like this all day. We have to give a way to laugh about it, or it'll eat us alive.

Samesies, except it's a bottle of wine, not whiskey!
I try to do things to promote self-service and then repeat, gently, like a broken record.
Y’all it’s about to be Friday again. Time wasting shall peak at 8AM, wane around lunch time, and surge at 4PM. Be well
Favorite email - “did you see my comment about that one document from the other day.” No subject and no description. Or, “hey this is more of a personal matter, do you have 10 minutes”…which then turns into an hour about a personal non legal issue that could have been solved by a bottle of vodka.
At least once a week. And usually when I’m in the middle of something important.
