My FIL (63) owns a small business and wants to retire. He has an option to rent the building for 2 years then sell it for $4m or another option just to rent it indefinitely but at a lower rate. Rental income would be approx 18.5k / month. What do we need to consider for tax implications etc? Are there advisors that specialise in this kind of thing? Thanks!

With inflation being what it is, hold onto the property. Cash will just lose purchasing power while being exposed to volatility in the market. Putting it another way, he’s not trying to accumulate wealth, he’s trying to preserve it.

Less than a year before I can retire and not sure I can make it. The stress at home, work and with the aches and pains of my 54 year old body are taking their toll. What should I do? I have an offer with 185 base,8% 401k and 10k sign on. MS reached out for tech role but I need to have full scope. I have ci poly now and I get nervous when I go on it. MS rep did say if I fail they will try to place me elsewhere but that may just be hr talk.

Should I try to sign the 185 offer and try to see if I even get offer with MS and let the poly play out or should I just not worry about it and sign the current offer? I am pretty sure the compensation from MS is great.

Have an acquaintance who is a single mom; she purchased a used car 3 mos ago. Six wks later her 17yo wrecked it, air bags deployed, and estimates have ranged between $10-$18k in needed repairs while $21k is still owed. Acquaintance was switching insurance policies and flubbed the coverage dates and there were a few days where the vehicle was uninsured. No GAP insurance. I'm not seeing many options for her besides to continue pmts, fixing just enough to drive or voluntary repo. Thoughts?
