My firm doesn’t give credit towards bonus for anything besides pro bono work - including mandatory firm meetings or required marketing related work. What’s the policy at your firm?

That is standard. Bonuses are meant to be linked to making the firm more money. If your marketing work is successful, the billables will follow.

Not at all. Realistically you probably want to cap it for appearance purposes, but I know 1st and 2nd years that have done 100 KM and/or 300+ pro bono. Probably unofficially frowned upon as you get more senior though.

We get up to 200 in the non billable category including pro bono, business dev, training, travel for work, recruiting, diversity events. But everything besides pro bono caps out at 50. And the baseline is you need 1800 billable matters or none of the other 200 count. And you need a total of 2000 for bonus. Because they overload you with so many mandatory nonbillable things though, associates that get a bonus routinely have like 400-500 non billable hours on top of 1800-2000 billable hours.

A&P. I hear other dc firms are similar

Non-billable time can be captured (bizdev, marketing, conferences, CLEs, bar association mixers, pro bono, etc), and then it disappears into a black box of “soft factors” supposedly comprising some modicum of “consideration” come bonus time. My sense is they go into that black box and get ignored entirely.

like

No credit but I track that time relentlessly anyways. Some meetings and initiatives are a waste of time and sometimes you need to show a record of that when you’re slammed in order to make them go away.

like

We get 100 soft hours towards bonus - pro bono, recruiting, speeches and articles, etc.

like

Associates get up to 100 hours pro bono, 75 PD and 25 for “wellness”

We get a firm building bonus for efforts made towards firm activities that aren’t directly related to billables.

In firm stuff, I.e., stuff not required by clients is no billable.

I'm new to the industry and this is my first corporate job. Been working as a BI analyst for about 2.5 years and I roughly make $80k. I'm having a hard time trying to gauge how much should I be making, or if I speak to my manager about increasing compensation how much to ask for so I won't sound absurd. Do you all have any tips on this or are there any tools that I can use to accurately gauge how on average much I should be earning?

Hi all! For an experienced hire as a Human Capital Consultant at Deloitte, what should I expect the salary/sign-on bonus to be at a MCOL city? I have approx. 3.5 YOE (non-consulting), MBA and MS degree (non target school) and also SHRM certified (which is probably irrelevant for the role but thought I’d share anyways). Already did my research but the range is kind of all over the place for experienced hires so just want to have a ballpark. Thanks!
