Sounds like you'd be violating the policy.
Seems like a risk not worth taken. If you haven't even started as a summer associate, then they can choose not to hire you because they disagree with it or think it shows bad judgement.
No matter what you say right now, a lot of people will disagree. There is also no telling how any given sentiment will age.
Do you need to tweet?
Tbh no one is going to be able to answer this question without both seeing the specific wording of the policy & understanding the culture. Either restrain yourself from making political posts or ask an associate or partner you have a relationship with & know to share your political values to clarify it for you.
I really didn't mean that to be snarky -- but there's no use in guessing or worrying. It's a totally reasonable question that someone at your firm will be happy to answer and glad you asked.
My firm has a similar policy but are totally cool with you having a personal account that doesn’t immediately make clear you work for the firm. Clarify with someone at your firm - nothing’s dumber than having someone scold you for a tweet, so it’s best to avoid those pitfalls immediately.
the reason I haven’t asked anyone yet is because I haven’t started there yet, and am worried asking something like this to someone in HR or something is a bad idea. but will definitely think of some associates i could ask
Why not ask your firm?
