HI folks,
My current CTC is very low with respect to my YOE. CTC : 5.2 lpa
YoE : 4
Tech stack : Python , MLops
But now my manager has initiated H1B visa for me and the visa process is in progress.
Is it worth to wait till the H1B process completes to work in U.S (74k package) (or) should i make a switch immediately. ?

Depends on the firm. Which firm?
Not big4. I'm pretty sure if I name the firm someone will know who I am because I don't think we sponsor many!
Deloitte sponsored mine. They didn’t attach specific conditions. I don’t know if it’s even legal to do so.
Just note that you do not want to quit within ~1-1.5yrs of getting your GC. If you decide to go for citizenship one day, immigration will not look kindly on it (since the sponsorship is tied to your employer, leaving too soon means you may not have been intending to stay there at the time, which is fraudulent in their eyes).
Where do you hear 1-1.5 years? Genuinely curious.?i thought it was atleast 6 months (tribal knowledge passed on by my friends)
So from what I’ve seen, it depends on the firm. Sponsoring GC is a cost intensive process and some firms ask you to sign an agreement to stay with them or pay back the expenses (to the tune of $15,000) if you leave. I also learned about a friend who applied through a small company and they told him that he will not get a salary hike or bonus the following year so that the firm can cover the GC expenses.
OW1, salary may not be a constraint, title / role / job function change is a challenge
PwC asks you to signed a repayment agreement where you have to pay back the lawyers fees (they’re not allowed by law to charge you filing fees, etc.) if you leave the firm within two years of getting the I-485 approved. With the current timelines, you’re therefore looking to be ‘locked in’ for at least 3-4 years (if your PD is current) from the day the process starts.
I think the legal requirement for filing fees is the labor and 140. AFAIK, 485 can be self sponsored
Normally they will ask you ti sign some paper during GC start. You should by now have an idea.
Or look at company policy on intranet for the general guidelines of company for Sponsoring GC.
Lastly ask HR about the policies around GC.
You will find out
Thanks fam! appreciate all your insight
