My firm is supposedly having a hard time collecting? Anyone know if their firm is as well?

All law firms always. Had a client write to me he gave instructions for payment the same day he signed-off on the bill and it was exhilarating (funds lawyer in big law for context).

Snark aside, there are practice areas where the lawyer sends a bill “pls pay -1m, thxs” and others where you deal with billing software and inhouse counsel going through every line and then payment delays.

Yes. One thing that really surprised me when becoming a partner was how hard it can be to collect. We have completely written off big bills before after they went unpaid for a year. Whether we cut off a client for untimely payment depends on so many factors, mostly how long term or one-off the client is.

hope you all sent a juicy 1099-C

Not sure if this has been discussed before, but what kind of health benefits do your firms offer? I’m at a small firm (<10 attorneys) and the firm covers all health insurance premiums for staff and associates (including spouse and family plans) and also covers half of our deductibles. We also get a fitness reimbursement up to $200 per month. Are those benefits standard across the industry?

As a rising 4th year associate, how do you know if you're on track or falling behind? I'm the only associate in my department (transactional niche area), so I have no point of comparison for where I should be. I feel like I'm so behind. I've been getting more actively involved in drafting agreements & I feel like there's so much I just don't understand. The partners I work with aren't great at giving feedback. Any other ways to figure out where I stand?
