My firm (nyc) has been back in office since September. We still have WFH policy but it feels like if you’re choosing to WFH even one day a week you’re slacking. Anyone else?

Name and shame? I'm in NJ and office is closed until at least Q2 2021. So are all our other offices across the country. But in any case, my health > my replaceable job. If I'm not comfortable going in, and I do end up getting sick, what will the company do? Probably say sorry that I'm feeling so bad but you've maxed out your sick days or leave benefits and are going to have to use your vacation time. Or some nonsense. Meaning they don't care. So do what's best for you. if the WFH is presented and you're not comfortable going in, don't.

I don’t know why but many law firms seem to think that they’re conducting extremely serious business that’s life-saving or critical to the advancement of the human race. Most companies and other professional services firms are not in such a rush

In office since September feels aggressive and borderline irresponsible. You should do what makes you feel comfortable knowing that if you do ultimately part ways with your employer over this issue, your reasoning will be extremely understandable during interviews.

I live in NJ and work in NYC, no way I’m risking my health to hop in a bus, train or subway. Hell, they were all nasty beyond belief before COVID. Plus keep in mind, studies have suggested that rates will spike during the fall and flu season. I think it’s morally wrong for a company to force employees to put profit above health/safety. It’s easy for me to say what I won’t do as I’m not in your situation. That said, if you are truly bothered by this; do what’s best for you mentally and physically But never forget - you are just a worker bee and there’s plenty more to fill your slot if you aren’t there

It’s gross and don’t even get me started with the homeless haggling for money 😩

We have been back in the office full time since June. Despite many people in the office testing positive and the numbers are still rising. 😒 They won’t allow anyone to WFH. So my view is, if you’re given the option to WFH right now, take it. They can’t fault you for not feeling comfortable going into the office with everything that is going on right now. Your health/peace of mind is more important than their opinions about you choosing to WFH (my opinion).

Right but if I’m the one associate who doesn’t go in...makes me look bad

Hang in there. I’m hate to say it, but someone is bound to get COVID and then they will be forced to change their policy

Consultant 1 is right; if you get sick the only thing your company will do is offer “hopes and prayers” and we all know that’s BS.

Our office has been open this whole time and I was basically the only one working from home all the time. Now I’m going 1-2 days a week just to get some face time but it still sucks feeling like I’m being left out since everyone else is always in the office

Since July, my company has been WFH with them asking us to go into the office atleast once a week. Now I live in NJ and work in NYC, so I always drive to work on the days I go in. And is the company reimbursing me? Hell no. So I don’t feel bad at all when I decide to not go in any given week.

Yes but it is terrible. I spend $35 every day.

Do you think post-covid that companies will ever keep their tech employees in NYC? I’m a software engineer for a financial company and already am probably one of the last people to RTO if/when that happens. But now I’m thinking that this situation has proven that they don’t need to take on the costs of having SWEs in a HCOL city if all of us can WFH/work from a LCOL city with same results. Kinda bummed bc I’m a new hire and I never even got to move there... should I lower my expectations?

Hi ladies! Need some advice on what to do here: For context: I live in Texas and work from home. I put in a request with my apartment to fix the ongoing air issues in my master bedroom. The maintenance guy showed up without a mask. When I asked if he could please put on a mask, he left, returned and stated that they are still waiting on masks and isn’t sure of when they’ll be getting them. (Cont. in comments)

I’m eligible for 401k %match from my employer on aug 1 2021. The max total amount I could get from them for 2021 is ~$420. I plan on maxing out & my 401k has an aggressive strategy. Would you wait to contribute until later in the year in order to maximize the match, or invest early in the year for the compound interest gains? Am I wrong to think the latter?
