You’re a senior. Firms, both PA and industry, are basically begging for you to join them. Keep your head high, the market is on your side. “Why did you leave firm x?” Because of covid you wanted to focus on your family needs first. Boom- solid answer and they shouldn’t need to dig for more info.
If not, you’re a senior. It’s still early enough in your career to switch to something that you might enjoy more.
Don’t have emotions with your job; it’s a transaction- you put in work and you get paid. That’s it. I’ve quit many firms before without anything lined up. My mental health and family time takes priority over my job. And I’m always able to find another within a short period of time. You got this.
I got fired from 3 straight jobs. I found my place now. 100k a year, 40 hours a week. Not much growth but I’ll take the easy paychecks and Jon security
Hey OP, don’t give up! You got this, hopefully my career story makes you feel better
I had a crazy career that involved 1 firing and 1 layoff and then being passed for promotion
I started in industry at a small company as a staff accountant and was fired in 6 weeks for not being a good fit.
Then I made my way to a boutique firm as a staff accountant which was great experience but there was no growth after 2 years. I used this experience to be a senior at a regional firm then was laid off after 2 years.
Found another senior position at national firm, I learn a lot and thought this was a good place long term. Worked my way up the ranks for a few years and received great reviews but unfortunately certain individuals had it out for me and firm politics prevented me from being promoted to manager.
Obviously devastated from the news, I ended up leaving to go to Big 4 and will be starting next month! I had a lot of opportunities to go into great industry jobs but I genuinely like public accounting
So don’t give up! Get your CPA if you don’t have it already and keep your head up 👍
More context please. What happened? In each job
We’re you laid off or fired?
Was it something that you did wrong?
