My flight for today was scheduled to leave for 9:40 am for a connecting flight to chicago that leaves at 12:40 pm. Was supposed to reach final destination at 1:30 pm. Flight at DCA got delayed 3 times to where i couldnt make the connection flight. I was rebooked for another route and now i get home at 9 pm. Been in airports since 7 am. Should i ask for a free voucher or discount for the inconvenience?

Absolutely should. Things do happen out of your control so I think you should be kind and nice in your asking, but that doesn’t mean you don’t deserve to be compensated for something this bad

like

if your flight is delayed by over 3 hours (i believe) you’re entitled to monetary compensation

like

EU261 is only applicable to flights that include the EU in the itinerary. This guy was flying from DC to somewhere else in the US via Chicago.

I don’t get why you think you should get “free stuff” due to a delay, though. How obnoxiously entitled that sounds.

Of course just ask…just act like a Karen and you’ll get some free stuff

like

I just did. Without acting like a Karen tho. They said the best they could do was a food voucher. They mentioned i could reach out to customer relations to see if i could get other free stuff

like

Depends. Is it WX, or something in the airlines control, like MX, crew time-out etc? If it’s something in their control ask for vouchers. Did you book it on a brand name credit card with travel interruption insurance?

This is the only one I have on my phone, but looks something like this with a code and delay reason in the flight details.

Miles! Always ask for miles!

In this case vouchers or airline lounge pass.

Do not ask for miles, they get devalued all the time. Vouchers...although with inflation that's also probably going to be worth less

If the flights were booked on the same airline and they caused delays due to mechanical or scheduling issues (not weather), then the airline needs to book you the next flight available. It’s their duty to complete the journey you purchased on the ticket, but you have to ask for it. You know, because airlines.

The computer should automatically book you on the next flight for that airline/itinerary where a seat is available. Trouble is, that may be the next day or even 2-3 days later. It’s always better to go to to ticket counter so the agent can look up as many options as possible and get you to your destination faster.

Does your credit card offer delay insurance?

It does but if the delay is 12 hours or more

Over 600 flights were cancelled today, have fun waiting on hold which is probably more inconvenient
