Current Big 4 SC with 3 YOE in data security and privacy consulting, CISSP. Microsoft ppl - I would love to become an azure security solution architect at MS. What chances do I have now? If I don’t, what are some practical steps I can take to position myself well (e.g., AZ104, AZ500, etc.)?

Services are always growing and changing in this space. I believe cloud is one of the unique areas where hands on, but not necessarily coding, is required.
I've never seen such positions not require coding experience with Java, python or cloud native development.

I agree with you. Hands on technical levels have a lower ceiling than strategy based views. It would be great to know everything, but that’s not realistic.
It really just comes down to what trajectory you want to keep on going and what your goals are. As a management consultant, i don’t think you need to do hands on if you have a good understanding of concepts. I also think you can have a great grasp of the concepts without pushing any buttons. Now, would you be able to fix anything? Probably not. Would anyone ever ask you to? Probably not. Would it validate you in the eyes of technical peeps if you could? Probably. Does it add value to your career? I guess it really depends on the role/project.
