My gf doesn't understand that I cant discuss who my clients are with her. Anyone else have an issue with this? She think I'm the only one who follows the rules on that.

Once saw a db administrator share his all of his account information (usernames, passwords and login urls) to prove to his wife that he wasnt cheating on her.

He then told his teammates to email him on a burner email.

Can you say goodbye govt clearance and super high paying contractor job

Just tell the gf a made up company and give her fake stories

Some people here just like feeling important and likely the same people that wear a suit to the office on "casual Friday". Unless you're doing a top secret project (new product launch, outsourcing, growth strategy, etc.) it doesn't really matter if your SO knows. You just come off like a pretentious asshole when you tell people "I can't tell you my client's name".

I don't have an issue with not telling your girlfriend about my clients either.

Hmmm I'd be careful sharing the client name with SO. I once did and turned out my SO at that time was undercover spy from our HR department... not good

I see you haven't met my friend alcohol. Couple beers and I'll tell you the god damn da Vinci code. All seriousness - pretty impressive that you've kept it confidential. Realistically, the majority probably share this info with their SO despite firm guidelines.

I tell my wife about all my clients. Our revenue and account pursuits as well.

She does work for PwC tho

Come on now. No one here is working on saving the world to where the clients, and sometimes, even work, has to be top secret. Get over yourselves. You're not that special.

When I joined Deloitte, I was told that my client names can only be revealed to my parents and SO.

Think it depends on how serious you are. Is this a long term thing? I would say >9 months and going in right direction, totally reasonable to share a little.

I broke up with someone over this (and other reasons).

His reasoning was that after 4 months of dating, our relationship should have been more important to me than my professionalism. He also told me all about his friend's clients to prove I should trust him with information about mine. 🤦

Just remember, you can't control who your SO tells that info to. I think I read a story about JK Rowling publishing a book under a pen name and only her lawyer and agent knew. One of them told their SO, who then gossiped it to someone, and the info was leaked. Might have been a planned leak but I'm pretty sure there were lawsuits. Moral is I think it depends on the sensitivity of your work/client

Don't be so self important. You can say who your clients are. You should be discreet about the work you are doing.

This is a joke right? My client ID is dangling toolishly in that badge holder from my waist for 10 hours a day. Who gives a shit?

like

The only clients were told not to mention are those with projecr code names. They're usually under some sort of regulatory pressure, so revealing the name could actually come back pretty hard on us. If you haven't signed an ND or been told the work is extremely sensitive, I wouldn't be so strict

So I was offered a role in Strategy Consulting in after 2 years in Risk Consulting however, after 2 years I’ve only worked on Internal audit engagements few ad hocs such as updating risk register and the delegation of authority matrix.

Honestly speaking I am doing good and I am up for promotion in October however I am not fully enjoying my time but I fear that the move would not be a good and I can’t hit the ground running which scares me.
