“I’d love to have it, but I’m not sure what a fair price to pay you would be.” Good chance he just says you can have it. If he gives you a price, you can decide if it’s worth it. New DJs start at $7k, but there’s also the sentimental factor.
Good call!
Probably not, most likely wants someone else in the family to enjoy it.

Family watches are special. If he wanted to sell it for the money, he would have sold it for the money. Offer him a number you’re comfortable paying. If he declines and gives it to you, take him out for a nice dinner when he gives it to you.
This watch is your birthright….
My brother gave me my dad’s Swiss Army watch that he inherited and I took it graciously without question. If it was a watch worth a significant amount of money I would at the very least make sure the person offering was aware of its value and most likely offer to purchase rather than accept as a gift. Who knows, your uncle may reject all forms of payment anyway. But I think it’s appropriate and decent to offer.
Is your uncle rich?
Yeah, I’d probably insist on paying for it in some way. If he is uncomfortable with taking $7k from family, take him out to a nice dinner or something. If $7k wasn’t a meaningful amount of money for him, I’d graciously accept without pushing payment.
