Are you coming to Northern Virginia/DC? I’m in DC and have seen several people move here from NY. I think the difficulty depends on your practice in NY. If you’re at Big Law in NYC, you should easily be able to move to a law firm here. If you’re doing m&a or corporate work the work here may involve more regulated industries, but you’ll be in demand. If you’re a securities litigator, that may be more difficult unless you’re trying to move to the SEC or FINRA or some other agency that deals with securities. If you’re a general litigator or have some other specialty like tax or antitrust, you should be pretty transferable. Most of DC litigation is federal and often involves the government in a regulatory or administrative setting. If you’re in state court in NY, it may be a little harder to move, but if you have trial experience it won’t. Lots of people move to DC and move from the private sector to the government. Depending on your experience, that may be fairly easy, but government hiring processes take 8 months to a year, so start applying early. If you’re in-house, then you can probably find something in-house here, but many of the companies with offices in DC are in business with the government, so you’ll encounter different types of businesses than in NY. There are some banks here, but def not as many as NY. Message me if you’d like to chat more about the DC market. I’ve been practicing here for 8 years.

My upstairs neighbor hit my car and made a big stink about paying for the damages. Turns out her kid (16) hit my car so she didn’t want to go thru insurance because her kid doesn’t have a license. She finally paid, and her 16 year old kid continues to illegally drive without a license. Is it too petty to call the cops when I see this kid illegally driving?

Saying “All Lives Matter” as a response to “Black Lives Matter” is like saying the fire department should spray down all houses in a neighborhood even though only one house is on fire...because all houses matter. Yes, your house matters too, BUT YOUR HOUSE IS NOT ON FIRE??? All lives matter is therefore counter productive to the issues we need to bring attention to at the moment. Not asking anyone to change their minds, just hopes this brings clarity to some all lives matter folks.

What should be the max length of a resume? I have 6YOE in consulting and 5YOE industry and trying to keep it within two pages. Is that best practice or should I go with three to fit in more value?
