My husband and I are trying to have a second child and have been trying for over a year. I recently was referred to a fertility doctor and after many tests found out I don’t have much time (I’m 36). The doctors say all I can really do is live a healthy lifestyle (which I do anyways). Any tips or advice from moms that battled infertility? I’m trying to stay positive but it can be so hard sometimes.

I’ve been on a very long fertility journey - 1 year for my first, 2 years and still trying for a second, 2 miscarriages, 3 chemical pregnancies, total of 9 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Some thoughts: - 36 is not old in the fertility world - you said you’ve done a few IUIs, have you talked about going to IVF? With DOR, you might want to go more aggressive earlier - I supplemented with acupuncture and a naturopath. I wasn’t a huge believer of naturopathic medicine but there’s no downside and my experience has been very positive - make sure you’re getting all of the diagnostics, not just basic blood work. I had an MRI that showed adenomyosis, treated that, had another chemical, then did a hysteroscopy that showed scarring and polyps so I’m getting surgery for that in Jan Everyone’s situation is different but it sounds like you still have many options to pursue (not even at the point yet of thinking about egg donor or surrogate). Get lots of second opinions, stay positive!

Thank you for sharing your story .😊

We tried for 3.5 years for our baby and I had several losses before my successful pregnancy. I was 23 when we started trying. We saw a fertility specialist and I had another surgery (to correct an issue that they believed was causing my miscarriages). We used OPKs, BBT temp every morning, and was prescribed femara. We tried clomid before but it didn’t work. On my fourth month of femara we conceived. The big thing that matters is why you aren’t conceiving. For me it wasn’t hormonal it was physical (one blocked tube and endometriosis along with one ovary not releasing an egg as I’d had surgery on it to remove a solid cyst when I was a young teen). My left tube was removed and my right ovary doesn’t function properly so my chances of conceiving naturally were fairly low but it happened!

No specific advice. Wish I had some. But I’m a believer in power of prayer - I’ll definitely pray for you.

I can imagine how frustrating this can be. Sending prayers for you and your husband. It is the most wonderful time of the year and for miracles 🙏🏾

Do you have anything that explains lack of time? PCOS? I would recommend Dr Spandorfer at Cornell if you are thinking of doing IUI or IVF. We did IUI for first boy and IVF for boys 2&3.

Basically just wondering if anyone had any more holistic secrets? Or success stories for motivation!

I recommend the book “It starts with the egg” for supplements and fertility diet. Also, being calm and stress-free is important. Good luck !

I thought the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility helped. I was 35 and 38. I did acupuncture too and also saw a fertility specialist. With the first, it was after we decided to take a break from trying we ended up conceiving naturally. Stress can def play a role.

I experienced infertility and a baby aspirin helped me. I read about it and decided to try it since I didn’t think the side effects of taking a baby aspirin (for a relatively short time) were very great. May be worth a try for you.

like

Yes. Also called low dose aspirin. Old people take it to fend off heart attacks.

I used acupuncture and Chinese herbs for secondary infertility

WoW! Did that for a bit then COVID happened and didn’t want to jeopardize it by continuing to go. Do you mind if I ask how long you did that before you got pregnant? And what did you do to get those herbs down! They definitely aren’t the best tasting! I love the thought of doing it more holistically!

No advice, but wishing you good luck.

As someone that conceived our son thru ivf, it never gets easier. I’m not a fan of holistic approaches and I chose to just get the trauma of fertility help over with. The scars don’t really heal after the baby is born though. It’s a scar you’ll likely live with forever.

Consider acupuncture for fertility. I learned that my stress levels were likely keeping me from getting pregnant. Now I have a four month old joy in my arms. I did about eight months of acupuncture the first few of which were resetting my body and the last few were just maintenance as my husband and I kept missing our conception window due to his work schedule.

Have you had a full thyroid panel? If not, find a specialist or naturalist who will give you a full one. Took me 10 years to have my child and that was the issue. Don’t give up.

Yes I have. It’s normal.

Oh by the way I was 35.

I did acupuncture, chinese herbs and supplements and also saw an IVF doctor.

I remember with my first, it really took us a while to get pregnant. Not an advertisement and can be worth a try, I tried drinking usana prenatal vitamins and biomega fishoil and went for keto diet and Intermittent fasting (I'm on the bigger side when we were trying to be pregnant). Lost 45lbs weight and 6 months later we found out we're pregnant.

I am not from the US and taxes overwhelm me; the first few years I did them with TurboTax and it was fine but then I entered a domestic partnership and had a baby. I also bought a house (that I don’t live in), so I went to H&R Block to give it a try assuming they could advise me on optimizing my return, it seemed that they are completely transactional as the person is just typing numbers in a form. Any recommendations on how to navigate personal taxes with an actual advisor?

We recently had our 20 week scan and our OB brought up that the baby had a small hole in their heart. She’s mentioned since this is isolated and not coupled with anything it shouldn’t be a concern at all and the hole will naturally fill out. She promised that we won’t see this in the 30 week ultrasound. I can’t help but be worried! This didn’t happen with our first. Has anyone experienced this in their 20 week scan?

I am really tired and I think I’m burning out. I love my job, my account, and my team (for the most part). Working from home with 2 kids didn’t really hit me until I had to start picking up slack at work. I had found a good balance. But now I find I’m short with my older kid, house chores have gone undone, or work suffers. I had a review recently and I’m well received but the window for a raise or promotion has passed and they will look into it during the next open window (continued)

I found out today that my employer doesn’t offer any paid parental leave (maternity or paternity). This isn’t a major issue now, but my wife and I are planning on trying in a year or so from now. How many other employers don’t offer any paid leave at all? Coming from public accounting this seemed outrageous to me, but curious to see what other companies are like.

I really don’t think there’s a chance that the SCOTUS overturns Roe. I would hope this affirming decision further slams the door on states trying to legislate what happens in a doctor’s office between a pregnant woman and her doctor. There’s always a chance this swings the other way, but this SCOTUS so far has a non partisan approach, regardless of what the media has portrayed. The panic seems unwarranted.

Do you have small talks with your manager and directs? Feel like an as*hole for not liking it. My boss likes to start our 1 on 1s with topics around family, trip plans, hobbies, and other small talks. I don’t care how his weekend was. Or his baby. And personally I don’t like sharing much about my family or personal life so the small talks thing is very annoying to me. He’s super nice and I like him a lot but I just don’t feel like we should try hard to get to know each other via small talks.

Marriage or promotion 😞 I’m on track to make partner at my company. Due to the audit services we sell, we have to disclose all financial relationships, including those of our SOs. I’m engaged to a private investor, and there is no way he is going to disclose/sell investments because my company tells him to (I don’t blame him; I wouldn’t do this, in his position, either). This means I have to quit if I want to marry him 😞 Anyone else experience this kind of compromise / challenge? Any advice?
