My husband and I want to buy a new car and are TTC. Parents with 1 kid do you think an SUV is easier to manage with or a sedan works just as fine with all the baby stuff to carry around (stroller, extra clothes, etc). Am I just making a big deal over nothing? We currently have a 2 door car which is very impractical for more than 2 ppl.

We have sedan and suv and think suv is easier to manage with kid. It is easier to put kid in and out of the car seat, easier to load stroller from tbe trunk, and also the driver posture is better in SUV.

You’re not making a big deal over nothing. There is So. Much. Stuff. We have a small SUV/crossover and it’s great though.

We have two kids and two SUV's. When we were pregnant the first time we upgraded from my Corolla to a Highlander. I actually got into an accident while pregnant and that solidified my desire for a SUV. Not saying my Corolla wasn't safe, but I felt much better having a bigger, more substantial car.

like

Sedans are annoying for kids. We have 1 kid and we always prefer taking the SUV over our sedan whenever we have her with us. A stroller will take up the majority of your trunk. Car seats take up a lot of room, so you’ll have to scoot the passenger seat up pretty far to accommodate.

Thanks for the insight!

SUV is definitely easier. Acura MDX lasts 200k+ miles. On my second one.

We have a camry and its perfect for us. We are having our second kid and upping to an suv

like

Sedan is workable, but having an SUV is very helpful for more than 1 kid. My biggest peeve with sedan (we have a Camry) is that when they’re rear facing and need to be lifted into the seat, the head clearance on sedans is low and I always bump them on the ceiling. The SUV space has also been nice for road trips as we can throw in travel crib, stroller, suitcases, etc. In the Camry I think if we put in travel crib and stroller, we’d be limited to maybe 2 carry-ons which is ok but just a bit of a squeeze.

Thanks for the insight! Very helpful.

The pattern is clear here... SUV all the way. We had a 5 series and an evoque when baby #1 arrived. Couldn't get rid of them fast enough. Apart from all the stuff, the infant car seat tends to go in and out of the car. With a sedan or tiny suv, you will bump your head every freaking time. Especially if baby is asleep, and you will take any and all hits just to avoid jostling him/her awake... Just get the suv. Also, not a deal breaker but take note of the type of seats in the back. We now have an xc90 and x5, and the volvo is a dream for car seat installation because the back seats are flat (and recline slightly! Nice for mama when you're in the back for baby :)). My husband has the x5 nd they're bucket seats. The car seat will wobble no matter how much it's tightened.

SUV 100%. You want to limit bending over to the minimum. Your back will thank you! Visibility is much better than a sedan too.

I am 9 months pregnant and my firm offers 16 weeks maternity leave. Well, it just so happens that I was offered a job at a new firm, and they are flexible with start date but do not provide maternity leave (understandable since I don't even work there yet). Is it possible to accept the new job with a January start date, but not tell my current firm until a normal notice period ends, so I can keep mat leave? No payback requirements or anything. Would they know somehow?

Senior, pregnant and worried about busy season because half the seniors in my practice quit in the past two months. Directors have said to seniors “brace yourself”. I am already stressed and high risk and off my ADHD meds and struggling a lot to get work done. Is it worth taking maternity leave early and “screwing over” my teams? I feel guilty. Doctor suggested to take medical leave if I am struggling. Need advice 😢
