I think you should have a baby when you are ready. Yes it’s hard to be a mom and work at a big 4, but from my experience moms are the most hardworking, driven and time maximizers on my team. I love being a mom and showing my daughter you can have it all even though it’s so tough. I love staffing moms on my team and giving them the opportunity to progress their career however fast they want to.

This! Deloitte is a very family friendly culture. I joined while pregnant and it was met with nothing less than excitement and support!!

As long as you’re clear of your maternity benefits, do it! You don’t know how long it will take to get pregnant and one year delay isn’t going to make a big difference. I assume you’re not considering now or 5 years from now right? At EY you need to have a year of service on baby’s birthday to be eligible for leave.

like

Man, did I feel this one. I needed to work 26 weeks to be eligible for leave (not even company leave, state benefits), and I gave birth 3 weeks early, which was after working for exactly 25 weeks!!! I’m SO lucky the company changed its policies last minute and extended me full maternity benefits. This was stressful beyond belief wondering if I’d make it to that 26 week mark!

Never a perfect time. Nobody will judge you. If they do, it’s not the right company. I started my last job at 13 weeks pregnant. Would I have liked to establish myself more and adjust to the environment? Sure, but I was 34, going on 35. Biology wasn’t going to wait for the perfect time in my career. No regrets. I was reached out to by the recruiter before I was pregnant and was 7 weeks when I interviewed. It is what it is. Didn’t tell them till around 24 weeks. Everyone was very supportive. There will always be a new job, a busy project, etc, etc. You’ll never feel totally ready. Do what’s best for you! I should add that I was prepared to have unpaid leave because of my short tenure, but the company extended full maternity leave benefits to me after having worked there less than 6 months when I gave birth. Things will work out in the end! Good luck. 😊

You are eligible for leave on the first day you start at Deloitte (assuming that is your new company). I say go for it if you are ready… there is never going to be a perfect time from a career perspective.

You stated yourself that you switched jobs to be better at making boundaries. Take this as your first assignment and don't plan life around your job, plan your job around your life- that's called setting a boundary.

like

Clearly you aren't ready for a baby at this very moment. So just wait! Maybe in a few months when you settle in and see things play out at the new job smoothly, you can revisit the baby idea. No need to be stressed out

Thank you all for your comments! You have been super helpful. It sounds like I need to just double check my maternity leave policies and go from there 😊

It only took me 7 years to figure this system out.... posting in case it helps anyone else! I color coded my classes and printed off numbers according to the number of kids in my classes. I then assign each kid a number that corresponds with my gradebook. When they turn in their projects, they put their number with it. This way, no contact and I can easily see who has and hasn't turned in their projects yet. I take the list down once they remember their number.

Do you have any recommendations for baby carriers - specifically for bigger babies? We have a baby bjorn, boba wrap, and ergobaby embrace, but it feels like they are getting small / tight for my big baby boy. For reference, he is already over 18lbs at 4mos. Would love something that would be comfy for him but also distributes weight well, as he will only get heavier 🤪 Thank you in advance!

I feel like I lead a very boring life. I'm 32 I work during the week, eat, sleep, watch some TV, might occasionally go shopping but generally avoid too much exposure, have avoided get togethers with friends to stay safe and keep my family safe. I switch between apps, tried dating but give up and then restart. I just get into my comfort zone and especially now with this pandemic, but I'm starting to get FOMO like I should be doing something else. Am I just a sad person?
