My husband just found out that he has a newborn half brother. They share the same dad. He’s in denial because his new stepmom is 30 and his dad is 70. Dad married her once she said she was pregnant. Is there anything I can do to help him cope/ accept reality?

He probably won’t be close with his new half-brother given the age difference, but try to remember it isn’t this baby’s fault. Sometimes it is easier when you put the child in the frame as a place to focus compassion rather than whatever bananas and infuriating choices two grown adults make. Whatever issues are holding him back from being happy for his dad...that should get worked out through therapy.

I’d get that newborn paternity tested. I’m skeptical of 30yo who shack up with 70yos.

My dad is 55 his little sister is 29. My dad’s 3 kids are 34, 30, 27. We attended sleepovers with his little sister. They weren’t close. It wasn’t a big deal. My dad was busy in his own life having a family. He didn’t have time to be concerned.

Anyone here have experience with a vanishing twin? Went to eight week ultrasound and there was one healthy baby but also an empty sac. The nurse practitioner said it should not be a danger for the remaining baby but it will make genetic testing more difficult. I’m also reading online that risk of complications is higher with a vanished twin. Anyone been there? Was it ok? Could you still have genetic testing with hope of accurate results?

Would love to hear from moms whose babies went to daycare / school right after maternity leave (no nanny etc). Due in March and on the list for a stellar Montessori daycare / preschool near us to start in August (school year) when baby is 4-5 months old. Feeling guilty and struggling to decide if keeping baby home a year with a nanny is better, starting school in 2023? However, I’m worried about cost - we really would not be able to afford a nanny in our city on our salaries. Advice welcome!

I’m pregnant with my first. Super early- 5 weeks. Lots of time for things to go wrong. I’m also a step mom to two toddlers (we had them for a few weeks and now they’re at their moms until after Xmas) , and full time job. I’m EXHAUSTED. I have never known tired like this. Any tips and tricks on how to stay awake and focus at work? I’ve limited my caffeine intake (down to 1/2 cup a day or decaf only) and literally feel like I am a narcoleptic goat.

I am getting ready to send my 2 year old toddler to a toddler program next week for the first time. Have to fill out a form “bathroom waiver”, which is basically allowing teachers at the school to clean my child after a potty, including genital area. I feel uneasy about this but I know I have to let them… I assume all parents have signed such waiver?

Dads with older children: while raising your children, did your children prefer their moms over you? I know some will prefer dads over moms, but I assume majority of children out there will prefer their moms over dads… I have one child and it kinda hurts to see my child always preferring the mom over me. I know I shouldn’t feel this way, but I just do. How did you cope with such issue raising your children?

My elderly parent aged 76 has cancer, COPD, high blood pressure and severe asthma. Lives in NJ but seen periodically at memorial Sloan in NYC. I keep hearing about 20 year olds getting the vaccine but I feel so hopeless as New Jersey is a bonafide disaster as it relates to distribution. Anyone have any suggestions at all regarding how to move forward? This wait and see game isn’t working given how dire her situation is. I just don’t know what to do and am already on the wait list... ❤️💕

Pros and cons doing a HDHP with HSA vs. regular PPO? Cost wise, I’m spending $18/month on the PPO and $20 copays per visit (I only usually do my physical and maybe 1-2 specialist visits). With the HDHP, I’d pay $0/month, would have to pay for each appointment given after $3000 deductible, but my company contributes $900 to my HSA. It estimates I’d pay $90/yr with the HDHP as I’d use the $900 to cover the costs vs. $345 with the PPO. I always see HSA emphasized here so confused what route to go

Ryan had his partner call last week. If things don't change in six months, layoffs will begin. It would be much better to ask people to take a pay cut, or a few weeks off without pay. Some people may be willing to take a package as well. Don't expect it will be the sweet package you are offering to partners to retire early.
