My international flight back is delayed 22 hours so far. Will American Airlines compensate for an extra hotel night, expenses, or anything at all? Any tips on getting something out of this?

Thank you all! I'm flying in from South America and the flight has a "mechanical issue". Sounds like I can definitely push for them to cover the extra costs.

Not in South America

It’s insane that you even have to ask. They should’ve automatically processed it when they decided the flight wasn’t happening that day. I would publicly post something on social media and tag them. That always gets a big business’ attention.

Yeah, this^ hit them up on Twitter and exhaust every channel :(

I hope it works out

I know if you’re coming from Europe the law says they have to, and even if not I would be confident they would. Delta delayed a domestic flight for me a month ago by 12 hours or so in the end and offered hotels, Lyfts, extra skymiles, etc.

like

Update: flight got delayed by 48+ hours (not taking of till tomorrow now?!) , I booked a separate airline and got out of there. I will be pushing for AA to reimburse the extra costs. Thanks all!

like

Depends on the reason - if it’s “weather related” or something “out of their control” you won’t be compensated typically.

If it’s delayed because they don’t have their act together (likely) then yes they should give you some $ to cover food/hotel.

like

Check your credit card - many cards offer ‘trip delay insurance’ which can also help out in this situation

like

I would let it go today. It’s 911.

Re: 9/11 post

Sorry wtf does this have to do with the OP’s AA problem?

like

They're required to.

No, depends on the origin country

Depends if the issue is on their end or if it's "weather" related.

i think if you booked it with a good credit card you can also contact your credit card provider and ask them for a refund or partial refund while still keep the ticket and you also get another benefits as well. I know they do this with the Amex card, chase sapphire and venture x

Feels like your firm should be taking care of you here

United didn’t pay for mine 🤷‍♀️ they gave me an add for “discount” hotel rates.

I’m totally empathetic to people that miss offices and traveling. I understand your reasons why, I truly do.

For me personally, after non-stop weekly travel for 4 straight years, not traveling has made me realize how much I enjoy being home. Spending time with family, sleeping in your own bed, consistent exercise schedule, etc.

I for one hope consulting becomes more of a hybrid travel model (i.e. travel 1-2x per month or as needed). Else it won’t be for me.

Anyways, just some thoughts.

I’ve been a paralegal for about 30 years in private law firmS. As I get older, I feel like it’s time for a semi-career change. Either an office manager position or perhaps a corporate position where I can travel a little since my kids are grown and I’m an empty-nester. Has anyone made this type of transition? Advise welcome. Had an interview for an associate position at Citi. Interviewee was based in London and I’m in NYC. The only interview time that worked was 6am. I was barely functioning and feel like I truly messed up in my answers because I couldn’t not think clearly. It was also hard because the division’s core work is private enough that there was not much prep I could do beforehand. Tips?

Hi everyone! Idk if I need advice or I’m venting but I’ve been looking for jobs actively right now and want to make a switch soon. There’s a gap in terms or compensation for the jobs I’m being approached for. These jobs offer the same compensation I’m at or slightly higher (5-7%). This is demotivating and I honestly don’t know what to do. I don’t make an awful lot (105K in NYC) and I’m looking for a 20-30% bump in terms of compensation. Am I crazy here?

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
