Tell your landlord that you’re happy to do it so long as they credit you $25 each month, reducing your rent accordingly

Wire or ACH. The later is free, sometimes faster, and most people think it’s a wire.

And please make sure the person you are paying is the owner of the property according to ACRIS deed.
Can they not accept Venmo or Zelle?
If they have a cell phone number, they should be able to sign up for Venmo and accept payments that way
I had to do this. Landlord lived in the DR. Ultimately I didn’t make a big deal because rent was flat for 2 years and the next increase was small. I’ve since left anyways.

This is stupid they can't require you to wire
I'm pretty sure there is a NYC rule about methods of payment that landlords must accept
Don't do it

This request is 100 percent illegal you don't have to wire

There is plenty of court precedent. They have to accept cash and checks and they can't penalize you in any way.
Just tell them no, you’re not incurring a fee because of an inconvenience for them. Hold your ground.
There’s a credit card that lets you do rent wired for free and gives you point. Saw their ad on Instagram but forgetting the name.
Some banks only charge $10, maybe look around to see what other bank options you have
Ask for ACH/EFT instructions, usually the same set of routing and account numbers. Then set up from your bank. Most banks will authorize these tiny transactions to verify the account and then you can send money free of charge. Keep in mind it takes 1-2 business days so I'd put the payment through at least a day earlier than due date.

These inputs were super helpful.. so i made all payments without any transaction fee. I set up eft for the landlord and got the brokerage to cover the wire transaction charges! And I’m out 12k! 😒 but job done and I have secured my first place in NYC! Feels like a huge milestone given the kind of journey it was.
