You're gonna go far, kid
You have good taste MD1
This will come across as harsh. Saying you want to “slack off as much as I can” is not appropriate. If you’re in consulting, find another career that’s more laid back in industry.
But even in consulting, trying to do as little as possible and not “raise red flags” puts you and your team in a tough spot.
I disagree, we all have the same 24 hours, the ones that get ahead are the ones who figure out how to work smarter, not harder
Same op, I just repeat that that is no progress, got stuck on another problem, or some other fire came up.
As long as you don’t take their feedback personally, it’s just a job.
Some ideas:
1. Move the check in to be every other week. It will be less obvious how much work is happening when.
2. Change the agenda to spend more time talking about something else, such as longer term career development or mentorship. This reduces focus on how much work is getting done when, and doesn't necessarily add near term deliverables if done right.
3. Be less granular about your work. Say that 9 things with no specific breakdown can get done this week vs 10 4 hour tasks that can get done in a 40 hour week. That should save you time and still looks like a long list of progress.
4. Have a plan or goal for your slacking off. Overall, you can't truly slack off for a long time. If you need better wlb in general, address that more directly. If you just need a lighter 2 months so you can find a new job, that's better. In that case, you can slack more readily and push back on work/timelines because you don't plan on being around next review cycle anyway. If you just need an hour to pick up your kids each day, you can address that more directly too.
Wow, you sound like a model employee.
If MBB/ Tier 2 you can’t actually do this and get work done due to pressure/pace.
If non MBB/Tie 2, ie traditional tech consulting at Big 4/ACN you still can’t do it because of “optics”. You will have to stay online even though there is no work.
Find a new role OP! Wish I made the move to big tech during my analyst years!
I should have added in more context, but I am getting all of my work done and for anything I am unsure about, I ask questions and ask the respective stakeholders. I am in FAANG now previously non MBB/tier 2.
Should have worded the post a little better, but in my team I know that if I am efficient at my work, they will give me more work to do and I want to avoid burnout. Hence the post. Appreciate everyone’s input so far.

Work slower then. Get it done and send it to your manager a day later
