My manager despises talking about the pandemic and WFH policies, he said to stop asking about it during a team meeting. Anyone else experience this kind of tone in leadership? Shouldn’t they realize it’s going to be a huge topic for years?

Next time they ask about deadlines explain the same thing. You're tired of talking about it, you'll get to it when you get to it.

Let me guess. He personally wants his team back where he can see them, leaders above him are leaning mire towards allowing WFH or a hybrid approach.

Sounds like a control freak and a poor manager. Maybe you should considering finding a place/manager more willing to embrace the 21st Century and the needs of his staff (not just his own).

like

That’s because he’s an idiot who thinks no one is productive unless they’re in the office. Find another job.

I would be putting my resume out there.

So every team meeting you talk about wfh policies? That would drive me crazy as well. Nothing is known, things are still shifting, and he likely well understands who wants what, so why keep hammering about it? All these folks are so toxic calling him a terrible manager just bc he has a different preference! He gets to have an opinion! Wfh may not be good for him and that doesn’t make him satan and he’s probably tired of being made to feel like an evil person for his opinion. He may also know what leadership wants and be stuck in the middle?

Well depending on the frequency of meetings, and understanding how companies work, it gets old hearing it every single meeting and knowing that if there were something that could be shared it would have. I get it is a hot topic, my WFH was in jeopardy prior to the pandemic and now as we try to get back to office it is again. But my immediate manager knows nothing more than I do, and that is generally the case unless you report to a Sr. Leader or exec.

I noticed older employees get annoyed with work from home. Most of them struggle with technology. They are also the same ones that think they get bonus points for coming to work sick.

like

Stereotype much? “Struggle with technology?” It’s zoom, not rocket science. The coming in sick thing is Boomers who were raised that way. My own dad believed you never miss a day unless your are dead. I hope that thinking is gone for good as I had a boss who was like that and it was gross. Other threads are complaining that it’s the older people who like wfh bc they have bigger homes with room to spread out.

like

He’s being selfish that’s all. I’m lucky to not have to deal with this

like

Right there! Have been experiencing the same. The whole team wants to stay working from home including the director but she doesn’t have the courage to tell her boss and make a case. Then, gets annoyed because she is allowing the senior manager (according to her she is irreplaceable) to stay working remote while trying to bring everyone back to the office and doesn’t understand why people are not happy about it.

Back on the market and I’m coming to find two things: 1. Less desirable agencies are the ones who want people back on-site soon, with no wiggle room for remote work. 2. These same agencies want to pay salaries based on COL in the city where the agency is based even if you’re working/living from another market in the interim. Example: Midwest based agency paying Midwest salaries to folks living in places like NY, SF, LA. 🧐🧐🧐🧐
