Deloitte question. I have always gotten a raise each year, the only question I ask is how much of a raise do I get. But I’m hearing from former Deloitte folks, it is naive to expect annual raises each year however small/big they are? And how does this play in Deloitte consulting vs advisory? Do one tend to withhold annual raises in base salary over the other, or is this just a deloitte culture thing? Looking at exit opportunities all over. So lmk! I’d Rather get a small raise than none at all.

Yeah you can’t mandate stupid rules please that. That doesn’t make any sense.
Good for the new hires! They know how to push past a toxic work environment.
I mean, they do pay you for that? But I honestly don’t know how KPMG or OP’s firm works. We don’t have billable hours or any of that so I have no idea. I know working 9-5 only would probably get you rated below the bar and asked to leave here (as a client facing consultant anyway).
What was the outcome? I reported my manager to HR earlier this year—and she retaliated by withholding my ENTIRE 2021 BONUS.
Fun fact: My company has a “zero retaliation” policy. Hilarious!
Accenture3: Amen! I’m counting the days but I have years to go!
So if I’m at dinner 8pm on a Thursday night I’m expected to look at my phone for work emails? If you ping me I’ll probably get you a prompt reply but an email at night?

Reminds me of that couple’s therapy scene in Entourage - “I do need to take this. This is the bat line, baby.”
Funny stuff…
Nah that manager is the one that needs to chill.
I know who this is
Tell her to knock it off, then.
Let me guess . S&?
I have a “Must Be Efficient” rule. You either manage to finish your work in a reasonable time frame on a regular basis, or you’re not very good at what you do.
Meaning: you can’t handle a normal workload and/or you’re incapable of speaking up when you can’t.
Fully agree. To be more precise, when I’ve heard this “rule” it has been used expressly to undermine confidence and passively knock down the “underperformer”, who is usually over-performing because said manager can’t allocate work reasonably. I guess I’m just triggered.
Surely that's during business hours
Sorry. I meant that the rule is absurd and should only be in force during business hours 9-4:59

Good for them on reporting this.
Is she just requiring acknowledgment or needs the actual response? Either way she’s crazy. Good for your associates

2 hours is one thing, but that needs to be within working hours. Ain't nobody checking email at 2am just in case.

The kids are gonna be alright.
Tell your manager that you will prioritise your work as needed and that if they have something genuinely time sensitive and urgent then they should SMS/call you to discuss.
What a ridiculous demand from a clearly insecure manager.
How are the associates the issue here? If they need a faster response during business out, they should be able to text/ping/call.
Outside business hours? You’re on your own.
Good for them
24 hours sounds more reasonable.
Good for them
I feel like there’s 10-15 people I could raise this to at Bain, and I’m sure larger firms have even more. Just escalate! It’s an employee’s market - escalating won’t get you fired.
Sadly this is a case of a superior trying to exert control. All of us have someone that we are accountable to, and as professionals we have to respond to our superiors and clients. Be open in your communication, and if the situation doesn't improve look for another role reporting to someone new. At the end of the day you need to enjoy the work that you do.
I only answer my email twice a day because it’s screws with my ADD and I can focus on work and people who demand my attention. If you need me sooner, it’s called a telephone.
Yo OP claim credit! 👀

Also; 2 hours doesn’t seem bad?
