My manager has been making me do eligibility checks since I was hired about 1 year ago. I've been pushing for a raise and now I'm finding out that this was never on my list of duties in my job description. How can I use this to my advantage and not cause any bad will with my managers?

Your JD is never going to have everything listed. It just gives the idea of your job. If you are pushing for a raise, talk about your impact and level of work. You can talk about doing a great job with the eligibility checks if you think that is a next level thing. But I would not use a technicality to try to get a raise. It would make it seem petty and inflexible.

Agree with ^^ There is almost always verbiage on job descriptions that state “other duties/responsibilities as needed”. A JD is not meant to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities.

Now, if your role is continuously expanding and your list of duties has significantly increased beyond the scope of your JD, this may warrant a compensation increase. Especially if the additional duties are less administrative, required additional training/skills, etc.

The best approach to asking for a raise is always to demonstrate your value. Share examples of your accomplishments, challenges you’ve solved, revenue you’ve generated, costs you’ve decreased, processes you’ve improved, etc.

As my last agency was falling apart, I started looking for a new job, and per usual, it took a while to find the right fit. I hit the last interview for a job that sounded collaborative, accepted my skills, moved me to “Senior”. But they asked for my salary range and told me they had an interview w/someone else. I wanted the job so much that I think I lowballed at $75k. They immediately accepted. Am I underpaid because I was excited?? (Altho the job is awesome so far.)

What you should do when dealing with a very toxic worker that keep on sending passive aggressive messages to you as well as in group chat and email.
Things like when you answer his question he respond: I know that
Or when he keeps on saying my change requests were just minor in group meeting but actually not.
And keep on saying how hard he works when he clearly wasn’t and already underperformed compared to an intern level.

How to not let this toxic co-worker not poison me any further?

Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations

Hey, this is my first post ever and wanted to get some insight of what the salary range looks like for a Logistics Planner. I feel like we should be at least on the same level. Thoughts?

I just received a job offer at a company I'm very interested in working for (yay!). Their salary offer, however, is at the bottom end of the range specified in the job ad. In my initial interview, I said that my salary expectations align with the range specified by the ad. So, my question is do I ask for more? Or do I just accept the offer? The company benefits are decent and I would get stock options, and it's fully remote - if that influences your answer.

What do y'all think?

I work in tech and have been at my current company for 6+ years now. I’m basically a senior level data analyst and I’m really the only person at my company with that skill set so I get A LOT of high priority requests from every dept. It can get overwhelming. The idea was just floated to hire and train 2 analysts to work beneath me so that I can focus more on strategy, big picture and optimizations. Should I be asking for a raise and title change? I did get a pretty decent raise in February too.
