My multinational company of about 10,000 employees worldwide doesn’t have a document management system. Which DMS do your companies use and what’s the initial and carrying costs? Want to encourage my IT team to buy a DMS rather than relying on email archives and shared drives.

We use iManage, which is what my firm used before I went in-house. I have no idea what the costs were, but my firm had under 300 employees and my company has more than 20,000; so I’m guessing it was something that can work for organizations of various sizes and with the budgets that correspond to businesses of those sizes.

helpful

We use SP, not ideal. But I came here to lament on the use of email archives... uuhhhhhggggg

We use NetDocs. It seems to work fine. We switched from iManage. I'm not sure how much it costs.

Anyone withdraw from their IRA under the CARES ACT? I'm thinking of withdrawing and paying off some high interest student debt in the short-term-- then pay that IRA back over 3 years to avoid the tax hit. My job was delayed 2 months so I believe I qualify to withdraw without penalty.

Would love to get an outside opinion on this esp if someone is in a similar situation.

I love working at the bookstore and I'm proud to work with such a large group of people from different backgrounds. I'm really happy we're all here. But it probably isn't the best idea to get someone to reshelve books when they haven't been taught how to categorize them properly. It's like I spend most of the day following one of my coworkers around and discreetly fixing what he works on. He's a great guy, very personable, but wow is it frustrating.

What do you do when one spouse really wants to go on a weekend trip but the other really does not want to go? I don’t want to get into “why don’t you want to go on a trip???” Let’s just assume they both have sound reasoning. In general, how do you resolve that besides one going and one staying home? TIA

Additional Posts in In-House Counsel

Been in house for about a year. I just found out that a new hire who has 1-2 less years of experience than me (but will have the same role/title as me) received a compensation package significantly higher than me, mostly due to the market dynamics with law firm associates’ compensation being ratcheted up the past year. Can I ask for an equitable raise mid year? And if so, how? I got rave reviews but an immaterial pay bump (3%) at year end in December.

I got an offer from an F100 company that’s below market. The company recruiter says it’s non-negotiable. But when I asked for the salary band for my position, they said “there’s definitely room for growth” which makes me think I’m not high on the band. They also said on average most people got 2% raise yearly, which makes me think I’ll be stuck at that salary without substantial raises. Should I trust the recruiter? I really like the company and future coworkers. But 6-figure pay cut.

LOOKING TO MOVE IN HOUSE- I’m a 4th year with M&A, Finance, and Securities experience. Currently at a large firm so I am looking to not drop too much in salary. I have tried to apply to large tech companies for remote positions but can’t seem to get my foot in the door. Any suggestions?

Hello! I’m looking for some advice as a First generation attorney with no way whatsoever to get more guidance when it comes to transitioning from a litigator to an in-house position.
I have 3YOE in the areas of employment law, commercial litigation, civil litigation, and healthcare law. While I love being a lawyer I can’t do law firms anymore as a young female that is struggling to find a mentor who isn’t a 70 year white shovanstic pig (: any advice on how to present my litigation skills?

Anyone have any thoughts about a junior attorney (2.5 YOE) joining a SAAS start up with around 150 people? I would be the third counsel they have hired. The company is looking to expand to 400 people over the next 24 months and just received their first round of funding after 2 years of no outside investment (leadership’s choice). My main concerns are legal risk, on the job training, etc.

I accepted a new job back in the summer of 2020 that required relocation for the office opening in Jan 2021. Office is still closed and I haven’t moved. Now we are rolling out a new plan that you just need to be near an office but only go in a few times a year for specific things. There is an office close that wouldn’t require me to move and I’d prefer to work there given the situation but HR is still insisting I’ll eventually need to move. This is so silly 🙃

Is it rude to tell someone with a higher title (seeking legal advice) to schedule a call if they want to discuss? I ain’t got time for that. Only 1 “higher” in rank (eg equivalent of an associate telling a senior associate; a senior associate telling a VP, VP telling a director, etc).

Indianapolis F500? Interested in salary expectations for Indy in house positions (something like Cummins or Eli Lilly...doesn't have to be those two, but would prefer sizable company); practicing at Big Law TX in M&A and planning to stick it out for 5-7 years (currently second year). The salary guides I can't make heads or tails of for Indiana...some lump it in with Chicago (which probably skews the data) and others have limited info. Would appreciate thoughts on this!

I’m the first legal hire in house, business seems to be very wary of listening to my advice and is asking to confirm with outside counsel which always agrees with me. I think it’s just going to be a trust and time thing. But ughh.
