Maybe some impact investing shop? Usually people with advanced degrees and a period of time in another field are too specialized to quickly pivot to another industry.

The guy is honestly brilliant and has been in public education but wants out and cant find an opportunity.

Introduce him to someone in Public Finance? Or a group that does international work

Or research, he would be a hit

Now that I think about it... UBS has a program for mid career professionals. He might fit well.

Why finance though? He sounds like management material. Finance doesn’t make that much anyways

That is the direction he was hoping to take. I guess he regrets going into education. Thanks for the tips, I will pass it on!

But are his degrees from Harvard? Because none of that matters as much as preftige... *sad part is I'm not entirely sarcastic

University of Pennsylvania, so not bad. It's just weird because I have people ask me to look at their resume all of the time and they are typically not great. Then this guy comes through with a great resume, ton of charity experience, multiple languages, highly educated. This guy has a passion for finance and wants to be able to support his family better (which his passion of helping inner city people doesn't pay so well) He asked if I thought he would be able to get 'anything' so I'm assuming he just wants a management position or sales or something, but he only has experience as a teacher/principal. Nothing in finance at all.

I was laid off from a resource management role, working with employees approaching or on the bench, working with managers to staff projects, and support functions like report creation, scheduling, etc. Roles like this are few and many large consulting firms have frozen internal hiring. Do you think it would be beneficial to get a SHRM cert? Would that help get a "talent related" HR role? Worth the money? I have a background in recruitment as well.

My son is entering Kindergarten and his (great but hamstrung) public school can only offer 60-85 minutes per day for remote learning, 3 days per MONTH in-school. Just not feasible for a working mom in this industry. So I met some parents, we hired a private teacher, and I’m rolling with a 4-family homeschool pod. I’m keeping my kid in public school, hoping the curriculums can align and not go crazy. Love and strength to all moms and dads and partners out there. It’s tough - but so are we!

From talking to students at multiple M7 schools, it seems like all of the BB/MBB/FAANG companies recruit at most if not all of the schools . So if you're planning on recruiting for one of these, is there really a major difference in career opportunities between each school? Asking because it seems like some schools are specifically known for finance vs consulting vs tech, but if the companies are all recruiting at all these schools, the differences don't seem as pronounced to me.

Trying to decide between two portfolio ops roles, both in the Bay Area: Small-ish VC firm, ~135k base + 35k bonus Medium PE firm, ~115k base + 115k bonus Which would you choose? What do you think?
