My office is reopening and they’re not requiring masks if you’re vaccinated and it scares the hell out of me. Especially since there are probably a few unvaccinated people in the bunch (who will likely lie and not wear masks to avoid being singled out) and also since there is still not much known about the new variants. Am I being too paranoid in wanting to avoid going in?

Are you planning on wearing a mask the rest of your life? Real question.

CD1 I don't think caution = fear. I won't cross the road without checking for cars, cops wear bulletproof vests, most people serious about bikes would also wear some form of protection, same with condoms, exercising to maintain bone density, etc. Rather play it safe until we know better, than regret having a fvcked kidney, brain fog, CNS problems, blurred vision etc when I'm 60.

You’re not being paranoid, this is all happening in real time so no one really knows what the heck the next six months will bring. I’m vaccinated, which makes me feel pretty secure, but I have a 9 month old baby at home so I’m not willing to just “see what happens”. I get frustrated when people (strangers even) feel the need to tell me I “don’t need to wear a mask anymore”, or that it “bums them out to see masks”. Blows my mind to be honest. It’s important to remember that we all experienced this past year differently, and we can support each other’s decisions in how we want to move forward.

If you’re vaccinated and otherwise healthy you’re probably fine…but everyone’s risk tolerance is different so I honestly don’t think talking to other people, no matter what they tell you, will make you feel better or differently. I’d say it’s reasonable to ask your manager/management team whether they’re requesting proof of vaccination. And if you’re still uncomfortable and they’re requiring you to come in, maybe ask them for accommodations.

I’m high risk. Coworker (we’re remote in different states) recently got it after being vaccinated. Had me paranoid all weekend—first time I actually went to large gathering (concert and 4th cruise). I wore masks both times when indoors and when outside in crowded space. The variant is real and too much is unknown. I don’t think we reopened too soon, just need to be more risk adverse. Politico talk track is off. Yes, America is back in business. But we need to learn how to live with the virus. Oh and CDC is going to recommend anyone with the J&J Vaccine get a booster of Pfizer or Moderna. It is less effective on Delta.

like

They don’t know how effective it is against delta yet. I think it’s silly for me to wear a mask when one is vaccinated until data comes in showing how ineffective it is. Even if COVID were to disappear tomorrow, there’s a non-zero chance you’ll be patient 0 for the next, worse pandemic. It’s all about one’s subjective risk profile.

If you have young children you still have to be careful even if you’re vaccinated.

Do what makes you comfortable. Personally? I’m vaccinated and have chosen to not wear a mask unless a business requires me to. But I’d never shame someone for still wearing it.

I still wear a mask most places that I go and 100% of the time that I’m indoors (at a store, salon, etc). I know it’s much more effective if everyone is wearing one, but if you’re vaccinated and wearing a mask around people in your office, it’s still a fair amount of protection. It’s definitely not fun being the lone person doing it. It sucks that people might think you’re unvaccinated. But if it’s a real concern of yours (which I completely understand), then I say do it. Also if it’s any consolation, there are some unvaccinated people who are vigilantly wearing masks—-even if they are the minority. My Mom owns a business, and a few of her staff are worried about the shot but very terrified of the virus as well.

Probably? But it's your life and you need to establish what you're comfortable with

There are risks, but I guess we have to try to go back to “normal.” I guess you could look at it like thats what your vaccination was for…to not get it from people who have it…? Not a guarantee I know

I don’t like them THAT much. And I still work with them plenty, just not in the same room.

You are not being paranoid. The pandemic is not over yet. Do whatever it takes to protect yourself, which means continue working from home.
