Feel you on that, my last company replaced my former role with a more senior title and higher pay. While it was disheartening at first, that quickly turned to empowerment having realized my worth. I realized I was extremely competitive and that I was basing my value off of what others would give me—however, their perception was wrong and choosing my own opinion of me has now doubled my salary. NEVER underestimate the value of your contribution!

This is a great point - and in interviews you can use this as a data point to reference the market rate for your previous role 🙌🏾

Oh that’s so disheartening! But it’s not about you, it’s about them. In my experience companies want to pay the least amount possible - and right now the market is crazy, so they’re having to dish out even more in salaries (about time!). So it’s likely related to the job market right now and less about you personally. Also, if they’re willing to pay that much and not pay it to you, sounds like it’s good you got out and can find somewhere that deserves you. As a fellow millennial saving for a home, I get it. This community seems like a great place for some pay transparency. I’ve also found it helpful to try and find a mentor in my field who I can have these chats with and find out what my expectations should be.

Yes happened to me. And I was glad I freaking left. They weren't even offering me a promotion after 2 yrs

It's all about perspective! My point of view would be in order for them to get someone of my caliber they had to double the salary. Now you have to look at yourself in that way as well. You now have a starting point of what you should be looking for salary wise. Their job post should also encompass everything you did at your old job. Use some it for your resume. There are always opportunities if you look for them!

Currently working at EY and will be hitting 6 months in June, while I was super excited- I have come to the fruition that it hasn't worked out for the best. Is it bad to leave around 6 months? I came in at a much lower level, even though I had several years of industry experience. It felt like a classic case of 'bait and switch' and really I was trying to get my foot in the door. Should I look at new opportunities or will this go against me? I am annoyed with myself for taking a lower role.
