Let them live the life they want.
I'd rather they don't die from an avoidable disease. Their grandkids are still pretty young.
No. I grew up in Florida but now live in the northeast. My parents still live in Tampa and they feel I’m much safer up here. While most well populated counties in Florida require masks, many people still refuse to wear masks and see it as a political statement. I fear for the safety of my own parents and they’re only in their late 50s.
Can confirm- was in Tampa last week from out of state and I was very impressed with the amount of masks and social distancing being practiced.

Long ways from winter. Also, specific activities and personal practices create risk more than any specific geography does.
They usually drive down in October, so not that long.
Currently in Florida in a locality with a mask mandate, and it still shocks me how many people walk around without masks. Some people will wear a mask only to get in the store then take it off or slide it down.

Experts have said it is not needed outside when you can have a proper distance from other folks.

Our second home is in ft Myers Florida. We have been here since June. We don’t know anyone with Covid or know anyone that has gotten Covid. We practice safety and have been very happy here.

Anecdotes! Love ‘em!

I live in south Florida. Just follow social distancing and you'll be fine

Yes, avoid Miami and wear masks out in public. Or maybe vacation somewhere different this year... we loved Montana a few weeks back
They own the place is Florida, so really not comparable.
Better to avoid trips this year

Better FL than the OK Corral that is Chicago 🔪💣🪓
I just hope people realize that the unrest in Chicago right now is a preview for the rest of the country if we don’t get this virus, poverty, and inequality/segregation under control ASAP.
I was nervous about coming to Florida from the Midwest during the covid spike, but it hasn’t been nearly as bad as I anticipated. There is a mask mandate in the panhandle and I’ve felt safe at grocery stores and beaches. Restaurants seem hit or miss based on how they are managed, so I avoid the places that are poorly managed.
The positive thing about being in FL vs. Chi in October is more access to outdoor seating and activities. I think being indoor is a problem and many Floridians are indoors in the summer, which may have attributed to higher case counts we’ve seen this summer.
You don’t think it’s safe.
Are you looking for FB to convince you WCGW?
No safer in Chicago

If they’re careful should be fine.

- What do they want to do?
- Are they rigid now about mask wearing and other basic precautions?
- How large is their Florida social circle and are they likely to be among larger groups?
- Are they being realistic about the pandemic?
There’s no blanket answer and a lot depends on their intended behavior.
My dad wants to go, my mom doesn't want to go. My dad said he's going even if it's by himself. I think he'd starve without my mom.
Their social circle is pretty large, but who knows what it'll be like this year.

Same boat as you OP. My mom is currently in Chicago but has a house in Florida. She's fine being here for now because it's warm and she can be outdoors. As soon as it gets too cold for her, she's threatening to flee to Florida. I keep trying to convince her to stay but she's stubborn. She thinks because she's in a gated community in Florida, she'll be safe. Yes mom, the virus will see the gate and will stop dead in its tracks: "Well, shoot, there's a gate, I guess I can't go in there". 🤦♀️
My siblings and me are all running an organized campaign to get my Dad to change his mind.
Where in Florida?
I am familiar with that area... sarasota, Osprey, Venice. It should be safe as long as they follow the guidelines. Go out very early in the morning... wear masks, keep distance, etc.
Depends on where.
Maybe take a look at the stats in the immediate area. I live about 40 minutes outside of a big city in Florida, and we’re not perfect but the numbers are lower, and stable, not climbing. If they come, they should quarantine for two weeks, and then follow the guidelines. That is what’s kept many of us healthy. Have they asked their physician?
You think? Lol
I’m in South Florida, use masks and sanitizer, and they gonna be fine. Grocery stores are probably less crowded early morning or during weekdays. Beach is not crowded during the weekdays or early mornings. I wouldn’t be surprised if in fall Florida will have less new cases then states up north due regular flu season and warmer temperatures. I’m sure with good planning, Florida is as safe as other states are (considering rules are followed).
As long as you don't go to public areas, you should be fine. Wear a mask always, don't be social. Getting the virus is very avoidable if you're strategic.
