My parents are taking a road trip to HP from GJ. I am worried about the COVID-19 risk going on such a trip, especially road stops, overnight rests in hotels, etc. Have heard HP has not reported cases but do not trust the numbers. Also worried about local hospitals there in case something happens. Anyone familiar with the situation there that can comment?

Please convince them not to take any road trips. Its time where we need to strictly avoid any unnecessary travel. The community spread of Covid in India is at the highest rate globally. The numbers being published are BS. Better be cautious than be sorry later. If I am you, I would do everything to get them stay grounded.

I'm from HP and talk to my family pretty frequently. There's definitely cases there, less compared to a lot of other states, but there are cases. Also, up until a while ago, one needed to get some sort of permission to enter state border and upon entry mandatory institutional quarantine was required. On 9th day, some folks from the local hospital would come get your sample and the result would be released on day 11. I know this because my cousin came back to HP from another state, where her family was pretty much locked up in the apartment due to COVID.

Thanks, this is definitely useful. They are getting tested before departing but I’m not sure that precludes tests on arrival. I’m also not able to convince them to not travel. Are you aware of any reputable local hospitals/doctors in a worst case scenario?

HP has 16K+ cases and rising. Where have you ‘heard’ this

I would not travel. India is a still a hotspot. The trend has recently started to go down a bit. So they need to be patient and monitor.

Where are you shopping for clothes for return to office? Our firm’s dress code has not changed from what it was pre-COVID and I’m finding that many stores no longer carry work-appropriate attire. Help?! For reference, our official policy is business professional, but people tend to dress it down a bit to semi-business casual.

Anyone know the details about any lists in DC/Arlington for extra/leftover COVID vaccines? Keep hearing about lists that sites are keeping that they call thru at the end of the day to make sure all the doses are used.

People who work in health care, or are close with someone who does: what is actually going on with COVID and the vaccine? Honestly feel like I can’t trust the media, the government, or the CDC/WHO. I know cases are up, but is it still as severe? Are the vaccinated safe, or did we botch the vaccine? Really just scared and can never tell whether I’m doing the right thing anymore. (I know there are versions of this all over the news, but want to hear from people who deal with it live.)

Prior to covid I was a driven woman who was a top performer on my team. In the past 18 months I have really lost all motivation and have embraced being an average performer. I accept this because at 30, single and stagnant professionally I have come to the realization that I need to prioritize the things that I want in life and although I do want to continue to be financially successful I want a family- more. I am not sure if I should explore a flexible work arrangement

My dad is generally supportive of me, but downplays my accomplishments and treats my confidence like arrogance. He barely acknowledges my wins and can be slightly (but not overly) negative. He does say he’s proud of me once in a while, but I do feel like my feelings are often invalidated. For what it’s worth, he’s an Asian dad and will always see me as his kid rather than an adult. Any advice? I try not to seek approval, but I do live with my parents (moved out then back in due to COVID)

My wife and I would like to retire at age 50 (or earlier). We’re in our early 30s. We’ve been maxing out 401ks and IRAs for years and started contributing 20k a year into a taxable account to start filling the gap since we can’t access 401k until 55. At what point should we be reducing 401k/IRAs and redirecting to the taxable account? Otherwise our income balloons late in life. Curious how others are managing this.
