I have 6 yrs of HR exp, a PHR cert & an HRIP cert. I recently left my role as an HR Rep at a tech co b/c I was working 60+/week and the stress of the job was affecting my health. I recently received an offer at a new tech co that is $10k less than what I was previously making with comments from current EEs that this new co has a better WLB. Total comp is still a lot less than my prev company. Is less comp too much of a compromise for better WLB? What have you compromised for a better WLB?

Over dramatic and parent like. They love you.
Aww wholesome! Gonna call my mom and tell her I love her but to miss me w the moving home stuff
My parents are concerned that something will happen but honestly I think you may just be safer here since I trust New Yorkers would beat them up. The amount of people in the streets celebrating that Trump lost was amazing so I have hope on that.
Just buy groceries for two-three weeks, have a list of emergency contacts and check in on friends, but should be ok.
Oh yeah, no doubt. As a brown person I want these racists to go back into their holes. They will never change and not worth clashing with them (which is what I feel like doing but that would be stupid).
Since Trump winning last time I’ve never left my house without an official ID (passport) given I’ve always been concerned of running into a Karen that would call ICE on me for no reason. But again, there are things we can control to alleviate this anxiety and this is temporary (fingers crossed)

You mean like the Not My President protests and riots from four years ago?
Relax.. there were certainly riots in NYC as well during the summer.
While I do think the threats around inauguration shouldn’t be taken lightly, your parents are being over dramatic and they need to take it more lightly.
Not sure where they get their news from but this is cray cray
Seems more like Parlor commentary
I bought extra groceries (12-14 days worth instead of the usual 7 days) before the election as a "just in case" and will probably do the same this time a few days before the inauguration for peace of mind. Moving out of the city is insane.

I don’t actually think they are that crazy. Look what happened last week. The capital is gearing up for crazy protests during the inauguration. I wouldn’t be anywhere near a major city for that day or a couple of days after.
For those that didn’t closely read the post, OP is moving out of NYC at month end anyways. A couple of days early won’t hurt
Didn’t know this date - thanks for putting me/us on to it. Will definitely be more cautious and not really venture about either day 🙏🏻
I’d rather by in NYC rn than Georgia.
If there was one city I'd be pretty comfortable living in with this supposed violence, it's NYC.
I think it’s a boomer parent thing to say that. My parents have never lived in a major city, and still think of New York City as it was in the 70s and 80s. I don’t think I am in harm’s way on the UES

It’s definitely gotten pretty ratchet around here on UES. Right here is where all the random robbery and homeless stuff is happening!! I’m moving back downtown
They’re parents so this is expected. Maybe work somewhere outside the city during the week of the inauguration or something?

Gotta love parents! I’ve lived in DC and NY. I can promise you that the NYPD won’t be caught off guard and hamstrung in the way the Capitol Police were last week. Don’t worry.
NYC is basically a city state. If the entire US went to shit NYC would be doing just fine.
Enthusiast
Well it’s already gone to shit here how much worse can it really get!?
My parents just mentioned the same thing to me today...do we have the same parents?
The capital will definitely be a place to stay away from, as some other folks mentioned, most people in nyc hate trump and believe in masks. Even those that like Trump here know that the capital incident was too much
Totally understand their concern and like others have echoed, take some extra precautions and don’t spend much time outside in big tourist spots/places for groups to gather.
