My partner and I are considering getting the 2018 Honda CR-V EX-L for $28k used, mainly for the adaptive cruise control and lane centering assist feature. Is this reasonable and still have fire goals? Does it matter what out income, age and net worth are?

Is it possible to delay the purchase until after COVID, if it ever ends? Ignore the question if you’re still driving as normal. That’s a great car. I just recommend paying in cash or getting a 0% interest financing.

We mainly want to use those semi autonomous driving features for long road trips during COVID. We've rented cars for $50/day for 2 trips so far

My parents just got a new Hyundai for the exact same reasons, 100% recommend doing it.

There’s not enough info here - if you’re making 250k HHI vs. 100k the math is very different, and likewise, we don’t know your age and net worth.

Telling a couple 25 year olds with 180k of student loan debt this is a bad idea is different than if they’re debt free.

Think you’re good then, pay cash

Making a lot of money relative to the average but feeling poor? Median after-tax income was ~$55,000 in 1981 and was ~$73,000 in 2020. Using a Bank of Canada inflation calculator $55,000 in 1981 is equivalent to ~$165,000 today, which would put someone in the top 10% of earners today. But in 1981 the median family had that extra money. Who can I blame?
