As a Latino, I appreciate you’re making the effort to understand the market. It’s not your fault that they put you on that assignment — your agency needs more diversity ☺️. Saludos!

It’s Latino, not Latinx. In fact, Latino is preferred because “Latinx” is not inclusive to Spanish and Portuguese speakers, because it’s unpronounceable in those languages. “Latino” is already gender neutral. A Latino could be any gender. A group of specifically male Latinos are “hombres latinos.” “Latinos” would not be the accurate way to convey that. It’s OK to say Latino. —Sincerely, over 97% of Latinos.

Facts: - In the old days people said “mujer Latino” and yes it sounds odd and outdated but it was said. Sort of like if someone said “female actor” instead of “actress.” - “Latina” was invented fairly recently, in the 1970s. It was to specify a woman who is Latino. Analogous to “actress” to specify a woman who is an actress. People say Latina to mean only a woman, never a man. I attached an image of a book cover where you can clearly see it says “una mujer Latino” at the bottom. If you say there’s a group of “Latinos,” that group could include any gender. Not just men. Sincerely, a Puerto Rican actually born in Puerto Rico.

As much as I empathize with the OP for being put in this position by his/her employer, I would advice any Latinx / Hispanic people from helping. Not because I’m against helping a creative in need. What I’m against is Latinx creatives not being compensated for their POV. It’s valuable and underestimating this is what leads to agencies being so white. Because they don’t value POC’a POV’s unless they’re in a pickle. Things will never change, unless these agencies see the need. They’ll never see the need if y’all keep offering your POV for free. The OP’s employer should spend the money and hire a Latinx creative as a contractor if (regrettably) there are no Latinx creatives on staff (surprise, surprise…)

While I completely agree with what you’re saying, my agency is actually pretty diverse and had several Latino people on our creative team who just happened to leave right before this. Just bad timing! I’m very grateful to everyone who I spoke with privately and tried to take as little of their time as possible, and it was very kind of them to give that quick perspective. We may commission a Latino artist as well if the project goes in a certain direction. Just giving background on this specific situation, but of course MANY agencies need a major boost in diversity.

Just find solace in the fact that most Hispanic people in the US don’t really care for HHM.

Maybe it’s because it’s split halfway between 2 months.

I forgot to address OP’s question. Avoid using the word “fire.” (See UPS’s recent cringeworthy ad about Latino business owners having “fire”). Same thing goes for the word “spice.” Get your music straight. Do not play Caribbean music when showing Mexican imagery. Don’t do Spanglish. Either it’s all in English, or all in Spanish.

Disagree with “Latino” is gender neutral. “La comunidad Latina” is.

Question: The company that you are working for offers cloud managed services and has been approached by a potential client. What are some areas (or red flags) you would consider before responding to their RFP? ( I started putting together a response but would love to get your insights) Answer: 1) Understanding of current annual spending vs spending if they adopted our cloud services 2) Clients expected growth rate 3) Regulatory requirements depending on industry (medical, fed etc)

A few months ago a new colleague arrived (I think 1 year max of experience). On Teams they are always "away". They are on the same project as me so I know exactly what they should be doing but they are very slow to complete tasks. Suggestions?

I’ve been in the industry for about 20 years, hundreds of pitches, dozens of speaking events at big shows. I used to be a natural when presenting. Fluid, clever and insightful while keeping it friendly and conversational. Since covid and WFH my presentation focus is totally off. Low energy, nervous, dry mouth, reading off slides, hard to keep my mind in the bigger picture or focus on the story. Womp womp. Really getting me down and not sure how to get the magic back. Depressing.

I was checking and comparing healthcare costs for the two companies my spouse and I work for. For me with HSA it is around $900 per month for just Medical, Vision and Dental. For my wife (with HSA) it is $300 per month. Both have $3000 deductible. My out of pocket max is $14000 while my wife’s is $7000. All of these numbers are for a family of 4. Why do we have such a huge difference in healthcare costs for similar coverage? My wife’s company is 30K employees and my company is 300K employees.
