My partner is an MBA candidate with offers at Takeda and Biogen (2-year Commercial Leadership Development Program) If you have consulted with one or both of these companies, which would you recommend working for and why? (i.e. therapeutic area, pipeline, culture, etc.)

Future looking bleak for Biogen…

likesmartfunny

Before or after they’re acquired? 😅

Worked with both, Biogen more frequently. They seem to have a good culture with great people. Unfortunately, the aduhelm drama will affect their hiring and the health of the organization - hard to say if it’s a great idea to join right now. Takeda is more of MBB compared with a boutique consultancy, if I’m speaking in language you’d understand. Probably a great place to start a career, but very regimented and would expect high level work output.

Biogen is smaller, understaffed and under pressure. Takeda a bit more typical big Pharma

Takeda can be a bit sweatshoppy, Biogen is more chilled although the alzheimer angle is a big thing for them

Really depends on the products they’ll be working on - I’ve heard bad stories from both, e.g., NINLARO from takeda is a nightmare

For WLB, definitely BIIB, however, they’ve had to go through cycles of firing people due to their current limited pipeline. Takeda is bigger, better pipeline but def. more cut throat

Takeda is better for the CV. Biogen is trash right now dont go

Are these both rotational development programs?

Yes, summer internship and then 2-year commercial rotational development program..

Rotational programs are pretty layoff proof in general. Go with which ever one you like the people/rotations more. Takeda is a better name, but neither will hurt you.

Don’t know much about Biogen. Takeda went through a restructure last year and people had to reapply for jobs. This means hopefully they will settle for a few years. Takeda will be good on CV.

The only concern I see with Takeda is that they went through quite a few recent failures in oncology. Not sure how it has affected them internally though

Probably less than aduhelm has affected BIIB

I am in the Takeda Commercial Leadership Development program and I love the experience and people. Tell her to talk to the leadership from each company to see if they are the people your partner would respect and want to emulate and go from there.
