My partner takes on 50% of the mental load around the house. But! He is completely incapable of planning a vacation, even an overnight getaway. Anyone else experience this frustration? What did you do

Dude this is not a bad situation. Pick your battles.

Haha same! I love planning trips.

...this is something so little to be frustrated over. I’m single and I’d be happy to have an emotionally mature partner, do you want to hand him over to me? I’m happy to do the vacation planning as a trade off 😂😂😂

Realize that not everyone is good at everything. If your partner is equitable in other things, why not just take this one thing on if you are good at it? My mom is the same way. If I wait around for her to plan anything trip wise, it won't happen. Even if I'm paying for everything upfront and have already selected the destination. Like she won't even come up with one thing she really wants to do. So I just plan everything and ask her if she's good with it. She always is and never complains. So I'd say as long as your partner isn't complaining about any part of the trip he didn't plan, then just do it yourself. Get his input on things where you can (number of days away, budget, okaying final schedule, etc). On the plus side, it's exactly the trip you want and you don't have to compromise!

yeah i felt this way with my SO too .. and to cope, i framed it differently in my head (similar to what D1 said). i get to do everything i want 😂. but it’s def nice to have someone else plan for once. which i accept will never happen with my so 😂

I normally do plan all vacations but I've had a crazy fall with work, wheras covid has made his workload decrease. Just this once I really wanted even a mini vacation planned for me and made it clear a few months ago yet here we are a week before when I scheduled PTO and there is nothing planned. But you guys are right, I am very lucky and am definitely grateful for all that he does. Homemade osso buco will be hitting the dinner table in an hour and it's all him. I'm just slightly disappointed and was hoping he'd put something together for next week.

Lol yup, then I totally get it. It’s a moment in exercising patience for sure. It really does come down to different people having different strengths, but it takes some internal effort to remind yourself of it sometimes. Feel your frustration, know it’s valid, but also remind yourself of why you love this person, and what they do for you, if you can say you’re without fault, and whether or not this is imbalanced in the grand scheme of things. If it is, there’s more to discuss.. if not, vent to your GFs of FB and then let it go :)

Give him parameters, the type of hotel classes and brands you like. The distance you’re willing to go, you can do some pre work...small steps will get him there eventually

I did! I pretty much laid out 3 options and asked him to execute.

Agree with Deloitte 1 - pick your battles

Sorry OP, I am your partner. I hateee planning vacations. Bf has me block time in my calendar to vacation plan and then we open up a google spreadsheet and collaboratively figure out the details. Part of the problem though is that we both enjoy very active, multi-city destination type vacations so I find it overwhelming to plan the hour by hour. Sounds like you’re not asking for that though. I would just be honest and express how you feel about your partner not taking initiative. And then in the future actively remind him or set a calendar reminder for him so he doesn’t forget.

Does anyone else feel like they are just falling behind with the price increases for our big ticket items such as cars and homes? Like I started working in 2017 and I realized I couldn’t make it the way I wanted on $105k so now I’m at around $250k and I got some rentals but all of the homes in my area have doubled in price since 2020 so from $500k to $1m or above so I feel like I’m still just as financially tight now and cars seem just as unobtainable as when I first started.

So, apparently my school has the lowest teacher attendance this year. As teachers- what would be a good incentive to get perfect attendance and not use your PTO?

Just got an email that my bonus would be docked by $50 per day per occurrence for not logging in my time entries to be equal to 7 hours. WTF. I hate this shit. What do you all do when you bill 12 hours one day and 4 hours the next day? No chance in hell I’m logging 3 hours of vacation time for the difference! Also, fuck you timesheets.

Talk to me about vacation shaming. Whenever I have mentioned time off to my superiors (one in particular), I get a very negative response disguised as "helpful advice" suggesting it would be better for my career that I not take leave at this specific time, or I get the cold shoulder. I'm a pleaser, so I carry this stress with me when I do take time and have missed family events, etc. in an effort to avoid this feeling. I'm meeting or slightly exceeding goals, if that's relevant.

What makes a recruiter not respond to emails? I sent thank you notes to which I didn’t get a response from the interviewers but that could be common idk. However at the end of the interview the interviewer mentioned I might need to meet a few other people who became unavailable on my super day. I communicated to the recruiter that I will be going on vacation and if there is interest in scheduling more interviews and get a timeframe. It’s been the whole day and I got no response.

My husband and I are both freelance in production. We took a lot of time off after our baby was born and now need to get back to work and find childcare. Unpredictable sched/long days, what do we do?

I have been in sales even before college. I'm reaching a burn out. I feel like the expectations get higher the more work I put in and that ends with me putting on many hats to get done. I can't catch a break, let alone allowed a decent vacation without having to negotiate based on performance. I honestly don't want to be in sales forever. I'm versatile when it comes to any tasks due to the nature of wearing many hats. Any suggestions?

So a (non-Asian) friend asked me (also non-Asian) to order Chinese or Korean food with her to celebrate Lunar New Year. I declined, saying that it seems weird to ask a Chinese employee to serve *me* on *their* holiday. To be transparent, I do have a thing about holidays and labor, trying to avoid shopping and accessing services on holidays, so this might be part of that feeling I have, but I also feel my whiteness on this one. Curious on others' thoughts on this... for next year.

Has anyone had experience getting a MetLife disability claim approved for time off prior to giving birth? ACN seemed to think it was straight forward as my doctor sent a letter, but MetLife is telling me they plan to deny it - soo it looks like I’m going to have to spend time working on an appeal. 🙃 Yay healthcare. Really appreciate any insight or tips!

How hard do you push interns? An intern told me that a task took 4 solid hours, which seemed very high for the output provided. I checked the file version history, and there are a few 30-60 min breaks, and 80% of the task was obviously done in the hour before a check-in deadline. How, and how harshly should I push them on this discrepancy? Before you ask, this was a data transformation task that happens 100% in the same file, with no need to Google, use other files, ask for help, etc.
