If you are taking a survey, make sure you ask other groups. Consultants in my experience tend to be close-minded narcissistic perfectionist materialistic workaholics who say they are happy with their Tumi bag and BMW 5 series, but in reality have no hobbies, don’t play sports, are not spiritual and no discernible life outside of work. So ask folks that you respect and that you’d like to emulate. Sorry, that came off as harsh. Certainly not everyone is like that. There are also some wonderful balanced creative people here too. Yes, I’m jaded. I am on the way out of consulting right now, trying to save my soul. So take my opinion with a grain of salt. Good luck!

If you go to your old company and are able to bank $2 mil, you may not need to work again

like

Yes this is part of the dilemma. I can compress 20-30 years worth of working into 4-5 years. But again, the IF gets sold at the right valution is the risk.

Choose life but be pragmatic about your finances .. you do need to have a decent bank balance .. anyone who says otherwise has already got a bank balance

I always had the idea to go back since 5 years ago. Now i have the opportunity but suddenly another opportunity comes which is too good to let go. But i have to compensate that with my life after work. Feels lonely and boring

Why'd you leave in the first place? You may just get there and realize all the things you hated are still there

like

I dont hate the place. Basically, I stopped earning and learning. But now with the new investor, I will be working on multiple initiatives to increase the company valuation. What I hate is the life after work. Knowing my parents are getting older and can only see them 2-3 weeks per year makes me want to go back.

Sounds like you could just negotiate like crazy with former employer - maybe they’ll make an offer you can’t refuse

like

Maybe also do a market analysis on the side to gauge how plausible it is for them to be sold in the future

We have a similar situation here with our recent investment from outside parties. I would be hesitant to put a future value on selling. It's a long road that often goes no where. What is the equity worth without a sale? That's how I would likely value the offer. You could do some weighting on future value of the equity, but it's Base + Bonus + Equity (now or sale). That's the comparison. Play it out over 5 years, with different variables.

like

Idk about the equity's worth without a sale yet. But it might worth nothing because I will be getting a free share. I will know more by friday 🙏🏻
