My principals ALWAYS seem to visit my room as soon as I give my student(s) a break from their work or when they’ve finished early everything I had planned. They RARELY come in when I’m actually in the middle of making progress on a lesson. It makes me feel like I have to be defensive & justify why the students aren’t working. Does this happen to anyone else?

Yes, this happens frequently , however I remind my principal that they need breaks in between assignments do they don’t get frustrated snd shut down

They do seem fine with it. I explained this morning that we had just finished 2 math sheets & I was giving him a 5 min brain break. Then the principal just asked when I was getting back to instruction. I looked at my watch, added 4 minutes & said 8:27. They said OK & left.

Call it a brain break!

Lol! That’s exactly what I called it but I still felt like my hand was caught in the cookie jar!

I put up a visual timer on my smart board so my administration already knows it's Earned reward time.

Your principal should understand spec Ed students cannot focus as long as gen Ed students.

We do need more administrative support!

Always leave your plans out, or your instructional materials were the students can explain or demonstrate what they learned. When an administrator enters redo or review the Exit Ticket.
Don’t feel alone it happens to all of us!!!

I am a middle school social studies teacher and my husband is a high school art teacher. He has been an art teacher for a very long time and he’s not super proficient with Google classroom but I am. He is struggling with the students not having a lot of supplies at home and how to have them create multiple day art pieces. he teaches at a low income area, how is everyone handling supplies to students?

I am curious. When you evaluate a student, do you always feel the student truly met criteria or do you feel like you are sometimes grasping at straws to qualify a student to make a teacher or principal happy? I evaluated a student who we qualified under Autism Spectrum Disorder because he talked a lot, but not during instruction. He didn’t have many friends either. But could that have been a friendship group with the social worker.
