Aren’t they on a very publicly announced hiring freeze?

Not for every department. Right now it’s mostly for systems engineers.

I had a call with a recruiter and we talked about the role and how specifically I met the criteria included. He asked me to make sure my resume reflected that as well. Then we talked about timeline and how long the process is but didn’t mention salary. He said if they requested me to interview, he’s help me prepare for that too. Overall, it was a great call but haven’t had a request to interview.

Just note that the recruiter is not actually your friend when it comes to salary. They will act like they have to get approval or that they are trying to get you the best comp but it’s an act. Always negotiate and understand what the market rate is.
