My school is considering doing away with teacher desks to save classroom space. Thoughts?

I got rid of mine 10+ years ago. All it did was collect piles. As a first grade teacher, I never sat at it until after school anyway. It really helps with classroom flow to have less furniture.

Hmm...I like my teacher desk, but I wouldn't mind if it was a little smaller. That way it would help make a little more room and I'd still have my desk. LOL

I’d hate that! I love my desk space and need it!

Would not like that at all. I do my grading, lesson planning, parent communication, etc. there.

I would hate it. Years ago when I was in high school all the classrooms had just a small table in the front and teachers traveled from their cramped shared offices to the room where they would teach. This caused all the rooms to be quite bare as multiple subject areas used the same room. Also, teachers could be late depending on where they were traveling from to get to their next room. Many were pushing carts, or had their arms full. What a disaster if they accidentally left something in their office. I don't know if in your situation even if you lost your desk you would get to keep your personal belongings and stay in the same room all day, but for your sake I hope so.

Don’t do it! You need your own space to have some bubble time. Kids touch everything and this is your spot to claim.

I think that is just a stupid idea!

I teach walking around, projecting from my laptop/tablet, but LOVE my personal space in my room for when I’m prepping!

I do not like this idea. I would bring students over to my desk to talk about what was going on, while crying, if they did something naughty etc. It was a safe space for them to talk or me to talk to them away from everyone else.

Look in to Debbie Diller. She is all about organizing. With the right set up and organization, getting rid of your desk can be liberating.

I think pushing that on every teacher is so unfair. Just like our students, we don’t all work in the same way! I absolutely need that personal space to prep and organize my stuff.

True or false: If you ran your classroom the way admin ran the school, you’d get endless complaints from students/parents.

Why do you feel like this year is so much harder than previous years? This year was supposed to be easier than last year and it’s not 😭 The only reason I can think of is we didn’t have enough time to rest after last year. The only solution I can come up with is giving teachers more time to get things done. What do you think the solutions are to fix this or what has your school already done? My school/district/admin is amazing and they’re wracking their brains to figure it out.

Thinking back to when I was in school. What do teachers have to do now that they didn't 20-30 years ago? What do they need to provide now that they did not have to provide back then? I don't recall buying anything than pencils/paper/folders. We covered our used books with newspaper or paper bags Classrooms were simple, not every inch of wall space was covered in charts, etc. The districts/teachers supplied nothing extra. What changed that teachers have to spend their own $ now?

Is anyone waiting for an offer/rejection from EY? After 2-3 weeks from the interview, the recruiter reached out to me saying she would like to connect with me but then it kept rescheduled & transferred to other recruiter so I dont know if they are planning to extend an offer (which i start to doubt) or not. They didnt even send me a rejection email so I don’t know how long I need to wait for them. Is this a normal process in EY?

I’ve been in the industry for about 20 years, hundreds of pitches, dozens of speaking events at big shows. I used to be a natural when presenting. Fluid, clever and insightful while keeping it friendly and conversational. Since covid and WFH my presentation focus is totally off. Low energy, nervous, dry mouth, reading off slides, hard to keep my mind in the bigger picture or focus on the story. Womp womp. Really getting me down and not sure how to get the magic back. Depressing.

Posted in Big 4 bowl but reposting here: Looking to move into a general Consulting Staff/Business Transformation/Strategy position mid-late 2022. Was eyeing a Summer/Fall 2022 Business Transformation Staff position at EY in particular, but it has dropped off. Any idea of when positions like that will typically open up across most firms? Want to get in early, open to any firm. I do not have an MBA, but I am client facing and work in commercial markets currently. TYIA!
