True or false: If you ran your classroom the way admin ran the school, you’d get endless complaints from students/parents.
Why do you feel like this year is so much harder than previous years? This year was supposed to be easier than last year and it’s not 😭 The only reason I can think of is we didn’t have enough time to rest after last year. The only solution I can come up with is giving teachers more time to get things done. What do you think the solutions are to fix this or what has your school already done? My school/district/admin is amazing and they’re wracking their brains to figure it out.
What does writing about reading look like in your classroom? Do you grade students’ readers’ notebooks ?
Thinking back to when I was in school. What do teachers have to do now that they didn't 20-30 years ago? What do they need to provide now that they did not have to provide back then? I don't recall buying anything than pencils/paper/folders. We covered our used books with newspaper or paper bags Classrooms were simple, not every inch of wall space was covered in charts, etc. The districts/teachers supplied nothing extra. What changed that teachers have to spend their own $ now?
Do you have a place where you're able to lock up your stuff in your classroom? I don't and I'm not sure if I should make a big deal about it.
Does anyone have PowerSchool and Google classroom connected? We use PS Teacher pro for attendance and grades. We use Google Classroom for posting assignments and grades.
Hi everyone!!! Last year I put together a list of classrooms to exchange valentines with! We mailed 1 valentine to each class and included a picture if we could, and a few things about where we live and things we do! I currently have 13 classes signed up! The more the merrier!! We have classes CA, WI, PA, KS, TX, RI, MI, Canada, New Zealand. I have a form to fill out if you are interested! I will email everyone the list probably at the end of the week if not sooner! forms.gle/G
Homework... it’s my worst nightmare in the classroom. I have to give it but have flexibility in creating my own policy. Please share what you give, how you collect, and/or grade!! THANKS!
What is the job description of a teacher? At what point should we set boundaries regarding what we are being asked to do in the classroom on a psycho-social level? Teachers should be empathetic, stern, and kind, but at what point does that cross the line into therapy? Is it the teachers turn to push back regarding our job descriptions?
What is your max class size for the year? Is that number based on a virtual or in person classroom?
Friends with smaller classrooms and 25 + students, can you send pics or give some suggestions of your favorite desk layouts? I need new ideas please! (Don’t be fooled by the picture, it’s much smaller than it seems).
Tips to brighten my classroom?
Has anyone had success with changing the lighting in your classroom? I'm thinking about replacing the use of overhead lighting with lamps.
I need to revamp my intervention plan for foul language in the classroom. I can’t believe what these middle schoolers are saying and how little admin. does about it.
My school is starting an emotional support classroom. What are some acronyms used for these classrooms? Ex. STARS students taking action and responsibility for success
Is posting recorded class session in Google classroom a violation of the student privacy?
What are good classroom norms to estbalish with students at the beginning of the school year?
Currently considering offers from 2 big 4 firms for entry level audit opportunities. I’m a bit concerned about the burn out that everybody’s talking about in PA. Any advice on how to avoid it or at least minimize the effects?
I just received an offer from Deloitte to come in at the Consultant level in their GPS sector. I feel I’m being compensated pretty well with a 105k base and 5k sign-on bonus (I posted a couple of hours ago and my 17 month old managed to delete it somehow). Anyways, I would love to hear some brutally honest opinions of what the work-life balance could possibly look like.
McCann Health… More like McCann HELL to me 😪
Do you feel that there is sense in timing exit, seasonally speaking, for better opportunities? As in, do you think opps will be better in Jan after holiday season since tend to wind down in the latter months of the year, or does that even matter in this type of job market?
To all consultants out there: I am rather introvert and quite confcall - how did you learn to boost your confidence? Culturally I come from a region where self promotion is seen negatively. You always down-play.
Is anyone waiting for an offer/rejection from EY? After 2-3 weeks from the interview, the recruiter reached out to me saying she would like to connect with me but then it kept rescheduled & transferred to other recruiter so I dont know if they are planning to extend an offer (which i start to doubt) or not. They didnt even send me a rejection email so I don’t know how long I need to wait for them. Is this a normal process in EY?
People on long term travel engagements (6+ months) how often do you take a remote week? Have been on two projects each over 7 months with no break in between. The non stop travel is killing me.
For those of you that left b4 and got a job in finance or fp&a, is the grass really greener or do you end up hating your job and go for an MBA to do something else?
Grabbing dinner with a former classmate who works at McK and she says $50 dinner expense limit, WTF...is that real??????!
I’ve been in the industry for about 20 years, hundreds of pitches, dozens of speaking events at big shows. I used to be a natural when presenting. Fluid, clever and insightful while keeping it friendly and conversational. Since covid and WFH my presentation focus is totally off. Low energy, nervous, dry mouth, reading off slides, hard to keep my mind in the bigger picture or focus on the story. Womp womp. Really getting me down and not sure how to get the magic back. Depressing.
Between Deloitte and PwC, which firm offers faster upward movement? Trying to gauge the time taken for promotion from senior associate/senior consultant to partner
I currently work in industry. I have an undergraduate degree in business and opted for an engineering management master's degree. Will I need to go back for an MBA? Or are there consulting firms that will pay me more for my advanced degree even though it’s not an MBA?
Posted in Big 4 bowl but reposting here: Looking to move into a general Consulting Staff/Business Transformation/Strategy position mid-late 2022. Was eyeing a Summer/Fall 2022 Business Transformation Staff position at EY in particular, but it has dropped off. Any idea of when positions like that will typically open up across most firms? Want to get in early, open to any firm. I do not have an MBA, but I am client facing and work in commercial markets currently. TYIA!
Help bouncing back when you don’t get that in house job that felt like the perfect fit and strung you along for 2 interviews and almost 2 months? I am so miserable working at a law firm and I can’t seem to get out, even when I’m told my applications are great and the interviews seem to go well. I’m a sixth year associate so I have plenty of experience.
Given the long hours, blah blah... Which companies are letting folks expense meals? If so, lunch or dinner or both. Just curious.
I’m a first-year associate in big law, and I often have friends and family members reach out to me for assistance or referrals on tasks that I personally have no expertise (e.g. drafting wills, business/entity formation). Because of my job, I’m surrounded by attorneys who also can’t help most of the time. How do you recommend finding attorneys to refer your friends/family to while making sure that your friends/family are getting quality service?
