My significant other (who is not a medical professional) thinks I’m on too many stimulants. Says it’s out of a genuine concern for my longterm health. I’ve been on the same dose of the same meds since law school (high but not the max). Am I wrong to be upset at my S.O. for what feels like shaming me for a medical condition?

NO- I hate when people make us feel like this. If my brain worked like neurotypicals, I wouldn’t take the medication but it doesn’t so I do what I need to do to be a productive member of society and to try to do my job and make a living. I’d tell him you appreciate his concern but his uneducated remarks aren’t helping and you trust your doctor to know best. Bump that

Some people don’t actually believe ADHD is a thing or think it is over diagnosed (I have some extended family members who think this). I would try to find out if this is the underlying reason for your SO’s comment or if maybe it is ignorance in the way amphetamines work in the body of someone with ADHD (basically the opposite of how it works in neuro-typical minds).

If your doctor (the doctor/psychiatrist you are hopefully going to find after you ditch your current psychiatrist) is anything like mine, then you probably have to meet in person frequently so the doctor can assess whether you are having any issues with being on the medications. Your SO may not realize this.

So, hopefully some education will help.

Good luck OP.

Where is the concern coming from? Are there issues that he’s attributing to your meds? If you’ve been on the same dose for a while it seems strange to bring it up.

For real, dump this psych. There's a reason that meds and stimulants exist, not to mention all that homeopathic crap isn't regulated in any significant way. The problem isn't you! And good luck. I've been in something or other since law school and it's been nine years. You'll be fine.

I agree with your SO. And it doesn’t seem like shaming based on what you typed up. Taking a high dose of amphetamines for a long time presents very real possible health problems. I think you should acknowledge that you understand the potential long term health consequences but that you believe the benefits outweigh the risks for you and therefore would prefer to continue taking it. Maybe he sees it as an opportunity to get you off one of the most powerful drugs in the world because otherwise you’ll be running on amphetamines until your death. We’re all taking a health risk being on amphetamines. We just don’t realize it because it floods our brains with dopamine.

Bowl leader has spoken. Goodbye to this bowl. Goodluck you animals

Just had my saline sonogram today and they found a 2 cm polyp in my uterus that’s blocking blood flow. Bummer this wasn’t seen before. Has anyone had a polyp removed? How was recovery? Those with herniated discs, do you continue to work out? If so, do you do your normal routine or do easier workouts (was planning to do lower body lifting and HIIT rest of week)? If not, how long should I take off? For reference, have had it for 7 years, got patellar tendonitis 3 yrs ago so majority of pain I’ve felt since has been in knees. This is first time in quite a while I’m experiencing back pain while working out so a bit concerned.

I have a manager that does not seem to understand mental illnesses, disorders, etc. He thinks I am making excuses rather than trying to explain things (I have diagnosed ADHD, anxiety, and depression) and I’m trying to take ownership for issues but also help him understand what I am describing better as well. We are sitting down for a conversation later this week. Any advice on how to gently educate or help with his understanding of neurodivergence and other mental health considerations?

Looking for actionable tips to improve efficiency. I’m a senior associate doing primarily employment litigation. I get great reviews on my work product, including my writing, but lately I’ve been getting feedback that I’m spending too long on tasks and partners are having to write off too much time (not good for partnership prospects). In particular, writing briefs, emails, and letters takes me forever, probably because it takes me a long time to form the right sentences. [Cont’d below]

I am incredibly pissed. For the past 1.5 years my regular doctor’s office has been prescribing my ADHD meds. The nurse practitioner I usually see has been out on maternity leave and all of a sudden the main dr has decided that I don’t need an additional adderall dose in the late afternoon when the xr wears off and that my dosage is too high. I pushed back saying that I work a lot of hours and she agreed to refill this month only. But has now said that they will no longer (cont.)

Those who got diagnosed as adults: how did you get your diagnosis? I've strongly suspected that I have ADD for years and just read Delivered From Distraction (amazing book) which convinced me that it was worth finally getting assessed.
