Good for her. It’s a hard job.
Same situations with my brothers - I'm happy they're taken care of
Chief
She likely does not have health insurance, and the extra $ is temporary.
Chief
Grow up.
Chief
Sounds like you're underpaid
And remember, these payments are temporary. And don’t include 401K...
EY3 - You know, you’re right. I think, in the middle of a pandemic, that’s probably a lot more important right now.
Who would you rather be, yourself as an art director or your unemployed sister living off the state (albeit not her fault and no disrespect intended).
Keep perspective, my friend.
Pro
Be happy for her. She was working hard for a living and she still has to contend with a unknown future.
I agree OP. Bad incentives in place right now that rewards unemployment over work but the stimulus prioritized speed.
Chief
Please enlighten us, how else would we have solved this issue?
450+600=$1050 a week. *52=$54,600. You need a new job man... or if you’re thinking pre-tax, don’t forget, unemployment insurance is taxable

It’s totally unfair. But I suppose life is unfair. We just need to open up and get back to normal.

For example: I don’t think that states should subsidize university costs. State funding of Universities is a highly regressive policy. People that go to college tend to come from wealthier backgrounds than people who choose not to go to universities (and if they didn’t come from a wealthier background they will go on to out earn their non college educated peers), yet ALL people pay taxes. So it’s a system where the poor are paying for a service that is used by the wealthy. In my opinion, that is an example of a government policy that is unfair. That being said: I don’t hold it against people attending state universities. Why not take advantage of the state subsidy of education if it exists? Similarly, I don’t hate on OPs sister for applying for all of the government programs that are available for her.

I understand, OP. The situation isn’t fair for you. But it also sucks for her. Let’s not begrudge the unemployed the money they’re receiving due to not working & trying to keep everyone safe. She’s not the one taking advantage of you.
Remember who the enemy is.
Not your sister’s fault you are underpaid !
Just to be clear. I'm not mad at my sister and happy she's surviving, I just don't think it's fair that I'm working 10hr+ days and didn't even get the full stimulus check amount. Makes me wish I got laid off so that I could focus on other things. She's still getting health benefits too... Urg. Maybe I'm being immature, but I still think something is way off.
You are being immature. If you’re so jealous then quit your job and be done with it.
The universe is always listening, if you wish fo be get laid off don’t be surprised when it happens.
Tbh you sound like you’re underpaid in a job you don’t want to be in and would rather focus on other pursuits but don’t have the balls to do it... hence your misguided anger at your sister who was never paid enough as a waitress anyway.
Quit your job already, the world needs more creative, fulfilled, passionate people - not cry baby cheque chasers.

Would you rather her be homeless or living with you? This is temporary. Plus, all that money will go right back into the economy. Poorer and middle class people spend the money they are given in order to survive, thus helping out the businesses they are buying from and the landlords they are paying rent to. This will in turn help you keep your job.
Recently had this discussion. While it’s good people who are laid off are now getting extra support, at what point is it actually hurting more than it’s helping? Feels like if someone makes more on unemployment, they’d probably try to stay on it for as long as they can. Would have made more sense if the amount received was correlated to how much the salary was rather than a flat 600 to everyone
Chief
M1, you really think that extra money is going to purchase health insurance? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Anyone in the US with or without health insurance can go to any public hospital emergency room at any time and get seen by a doctor. Difference.... self pay v health insurance. Self pay means no pay.. they still get seen.
Chief
Are you serious...?
Chief
Maybe she will buy you some groceries.
Actually that would be really helpful...
Chief
Thank God you are NOT my brother
