If the company's HR team is not willing to budge on their decision to demote your title, you may want to consider looking for a new job. However, if you are comfortable with your current position and don't want to leave, you may want to speak with your supervisor and President about the situation. They may be able to help you plead your case and get the HR team to change their mind.
There is not much that can be done in this situation. Your supervisor and President could try to talk to the HR team again and explain why they feel you should keep your manager title, but it is ultimately up to the HR team to make the decision. If you feel like you are not being treated fairly, you could reach out to an employment lawyer to see what your options are.
Thanks for the replies! My leadership team is very upset about the situation and has been in conversation with the HR dept but they won’t budge. They want to pay me as a specialist even though I have the title of manager and I have what my team considers the responsibility of one (they were working on a promotion to director for me before the buyout, but this HR team is putting their foot down on promotions too). Sadly, I think I am going to have to just walk away from this job. I have been loyal to my company for almost 4yrs now and was so looking forward to this promotion. Really sad when a corporate buyout impacts staff like this.
