Bain & Company What is the likelihood of making SAC in September 2022 if I join as an AC on April 18th at Bain & Company? I am a senior consultant at EY with 3.5 years of experience in Data Analytics. Or is March 2023 more realistic? They told me 6 months for promotion but it seems like the two promotion cycles with my different start dates give me 4 or 9 months of experience, nothing in between. I’ll be joining in the private equity group which will be new for me.

Many #machinelearning algorithms, whether supervised or unsupervised, make use of distance measures.
Take k-NN for example, a technique often used for supervised learning. As a default, it often uses euclidean distance.
By itself, a great distance measure.
Knowing when to use which distance measure can help you go from a poor classifier to an accurate model.

It’s not for me, but if it’s what you want go for it. The most important thing is that they have loving parents. Congrats!
Wow that’s amazing! Congrats! No, you are not crazy at all. I have 2 toddlers, live in the city and have no intentions of moving out anytime soon.
No. I think it’s a great opportunity for them to navigate through diversity of cultures, views, and activities that the city can provide. Nothing against people who were raised in suburbs or middle America, but cities definitely provide better opportunities to grow with an open mind. Go ahead!
Raising your kids is not so much about Location as it is about the affection, security and confidence you give them. Kids grow up in all sorts of adverse conditions and are successful in life. Just be there for them, give them your time and your attention - the rest will sort itself out. Good luck and kudos to you and your SO for doing such a wonderful thing.
If you can afford, why not ?
Congrats! I grew up in NYC and came out perfectly fine (at least I like to think so) 😉
Out schools, and we were both raised downtown in major cities. Are we crazy wanting to raise our kids in the city in your opinion?
I think it’s wonderful that you’re taking on siblings together and they don’t have to be split into different families. So much respect to you OP! Give them a loving home, doesn’t matter where.
Thanks everyone! Good to hear that people don't think that this is ridiculous idea to raise our kids here. I'm so tired of the looks I get every time I tell a friend that we are planning on raising our kids here.
I grew up in NYC and am a POC. I think people grew up even more fucked up in the burbs to be honest.
I am taking some family leave and my SO is taking a semester sabbatical (works at a university) starting in January. I'm doing some last minute research into the policy now but I believe it's not that different than having a baby. We did use some of the adoption assist benefit.
People raise kids in ny for way less than you think you might need. You'll be fine - live as the natives :) #brooklynborn
Congrats!! You guys have a big heart. Hard to find people like you nowadays in this selfish world. God bless you and your family.
I too grew up in NYC and survived!
We're raising ours IN Chicago. Not crazy. Also, you're doing a tremendous thing. Good luck and God bless.
@ OP, hope you don’t mind a small derail — is Deloitte providing maternity/paternity time to bond with the kiddos? I’ve thought about this for the future, curious if they do.
Awesome OP. Did you use the Deloitte adoption financial assist benefit?
It’s not for me, but I was raised in the country. My town had 1200 people, one traffic light, a volunteer fire department, and no police station. Right now, Wife and I have a house in the burbs on a 1/4acre lot in a good school district where they can ride bikes and play all over the neighborhood. An additional 10 acres in a rural area allow for getting away, outdoor fun, exploration, and learning.
I love city life too though. I just don’t know how to manage kids in a city. Do what you know and love. As long as you have your kids’ best interests at heart, you’ll figure it out and make the right choices.
As long as you have a plan (sounds like you do) and a good support system (even if your friends are being judge mental now, I hope they will be supportive once it’s a reality), I think raising kids in the city is fantastic! It lets YOU as parents be close to people and things you enjoy, which creates a happier environment at home. It also allows your kids to see that cities aren’t “big, scary places,” as I was led to believe growing up in suburbia. They’ll learn independence so much more quickly, too.
Congrats on your new family!! 🍾🎉
Grew up in NYC and attended ivy. I like to think nothing phases me bc I grew up in the city. If you intend to put them through public schools look into the specialized HS in the city which are direct feeders into top colleges. Good luck and congrats on starting a family!!
