My SO and I will be long distance for 2 years while I’m in business school. I will be in the Midwest and they’re on the west coast. I’m super nervous because I haven’t done long distance before. We’re planning on 1 week/month (or something like that) of having them with me on campus. I will join them for holiday breaks. Can anyone offer advice? I really, really want to make this work.

We went long distance for b-school and it was honestly great! I felt I was really able to dive into b-school, do all the trips and parties, etc. without feeling guilty. My partner was very supportive and I think he also enjoyed not having to be around me and my crazy friends while he was grinding all day at work haha. We saw each other every 4-6 weeks roughly and texted and talked on the phone multiple times daily. Going on 7 years together - still going strong!

If you truly love each other, it’s going to be okay! I met my husband (married now for 23 years and counting) when I was in college. But I was messing that up and the best thing was to go finish college in my hometown per my father’s wishes. I was really worried that he would forget about me. But he didn’t! He wrote me a letter every single week we were apart and often came to visit. He won my parents’ respect in the process. After almost 2 years, he surprised me with a random visit to ask me to marry him. Without my knowledge, he had already asked my dad for his blessing the previous visit. So that’s all to say that yes, it can work! If you’re true to each other and keep each other in your hearts, nothing will get in the way of a future together. We’re almost at 24 years married now, and I can honestly say that I love him more today than the day I married him. Good luck to you and wishing you all the love you both deserve.

Build some routines so you won’t let the busy life of b school get in the way. Celebrate small things together. Communicate! You’ll probably be learning new things, making new friends, and having new career goals. Sometimes the other half that stays in place may feel left behind or disconnected. There is also going to be bad days where you or your SO feel insecure or anxious for no reasons…prepare to be more patient and understanding Best of luck!

My husband and I were long distance for 3 years in college and have been happily together for almost 10 years now- its definitely possible, But its a discipline! Regular check ins and creativity around ways to keep “dates” were critical for us.

My SO and I were long distance for one year of B-school. We did weekend visits every 3-4 weeks, plus some longer visits over breaks. It was hard, and we would not want to do it again, but we made it through

My boyfriend and I have spent the last 2 years long distance with me in the MW and him at his masters on the west coast. One week a month is really good! Having a plan is key. We aimed for the same, but covid threw in some complications 🥴. While obviously long distance wasn’t our first choice, in hindsight I’m thankful that we were each able to pursue our careers independently & in the long run this degree is good for both of us. I echo the advice everyone has given, #1 being planned times to call/facetime & nice date nights when we were together. Sometimes would use corp codes to get a fancy hotel for the night to make it special haha. All in all I don’t regret it at all & makes me cherish our quality time. You got this OP!

In btw round 1 & R2 interviews with firm 1, there's a gap of 25 days. I got a interview at another firm during this period. Shld I tell the HR at firm 1 about the same in next intrvw? If yes, what to tell & what not? Also, in btw those 25 days, I had put in my papers at current firm bcoz needed time off due to personal reasons. I am afraid if I bring this up, they'll take it as if I am lyin/that I have offers somewhere else (bcoz that's when you resign) [cant hide bcoz will hv 2 tell sometime]

It seems partners are much more flexible with associates who have kids than with those who don’t. As you can probably tell, my firm is operating 100% in person. There is no point here — I’m just whining.
