My team and I are working on a project about dog breeding practices. The goal is to create a platform that validates breeder's authenticity. Our mission is to bring more healthier and happy puppies in the world. We are also trying to learn how we can leverage technology to eradicate bad breeding practices. The world needs more responsible breeders, and happier puppies.

Filled out! Although I’m not sure what breeders can do on their end - a lot of the issue is that responsible breeders don’t have that many puppies and people aren’t as likely to wait 1-1.5yrs for a puppy so they’re more likely to end up with a puppy mill pup, or aren’t doing the proper research into how to get a responsibly bred puppy to the point where they aren’t even aware of puppy mills or BYB
But people shouldn’t breed on their own? Not without purpose or proving that their dog is worthy of being bred through competitions or tasks, or for bettering the breed. I love my puppy and believe he should be bred but I would never until I can invest the time, money, and effort to prove that he is worthy of continuing his line, and that is only after knowing that I picked a breed that is not prone to health issues that would impact quality of life.
Responsible breeding can be cost prohibitive too - vet fees and care for the dam can add up even before a pregnancy is confirmed and there’s a risk that there are no puppies! There are a lot of breeder groups on Facebook if you need more insight on how to lower to barriers to responsible breeding, but it’s a very complicated topic, especially when it comes to dog breeds that include characteristics that impact quality of life.
Adopt don’t shop.
