Nothing will be as bad as Elon Musk acquiring Twitter.
Oracle acquired Cerner this year. We were verbally assured that no layoffs would take place. But 200+ Cerner employees got the boot 🥾 1 month post acquisition.
I honestly would encourage you to go apply. Nothing is for sure at/during/after an M&A
Yucks. Sorry to hear.
I’d start looking, mostly because I want to be in control of my career rather than waiting for someone else to decide my fate. That’s just me; it’s possible I’d lose out on a good opp if I stayed. Still, even knowing that’s a possibility, I can see myself moving in.
Best of luck with whichever way you decide!
What do you have to lose? I know some companies have a hiring freeze, but doubt all do. December might be a slow hiring month, but put yourself out there in Jan and see what happens. You never know
If it’s acquisition by a VC, it’s a bad sign. If it’s acquisition by a much bigger company, it can be great.
On the other hand, if a large company has acquired you to get access to niche skills and assets, it can be a great time to shine.
Usually not good. My company was acquired a year ago and we’re starting to lose perks and expenses went from taking days to be reimbursed to over a month now. I thought I’d be able to retire from my company now it looks like I’ll be lucky if I have a job by April.
Exactly how it happened with Oracle/Cerner
High Risk / High Reward
Yeah, even I got mixed feelings. I’m not sure if I should look out now itself or wait.
Generally not good. What exactly are the circumstances?
Not sure, team is profitable but that doesn’t explain anything. The final acquisition contract will be signed in Jan, so everything is a mystery.
See if your role is redundant there. Only redundant roles loose their job specially leaders or people managers
There’s some truth here but not a rule…
Might be good might be bad.
My company was acquired this year. Things looked good, then people started getting laid off. Take a look at your options and if you can stay a year then go, do it
I'm pretty sure it's very common for resignations, layoffs, firings, etc to happen when a company gets acquired by a bigger company.
Depends on the acquirer and the goal. I’ve been acquired and rolled in and taken private. They have had similar pros, different cons. I’d make sure you’re ready to look—nothing is promised.
Bad
